Hi,

I'm going to install RC2 and want to do a fresh Windows install too.
Should I go for WinXP or Win7?
What's the pros and cons?

I would go for Windows 7. The devs heavily recommend it, it is fast, and integration of modern media is much much better than it was in Windows XP. XP works, too, though, but it needs lots of fixes. Mediaportal 2 will probably only run on Windows 7, so you will be on the safe side with that OS.

Ok, thanks for the input... :)
The rest of our PCs run Win7, so I guess the Win7 network services will work better with all PCs running Win7...

Win 7 is the better system. Just be aware of some little issues related to resuming from standby with win 7 and HDMI connections.
There are some work arounds posted o the forum.

I went Win 7 last time too and think its great but...

If you have a need for multiple audio signals out at the same time you can't do it with 7 without 3rd party software running. I use this kind of a setup for a multi room audio system and was disappointed and unaware it wouldn't work after I upgraded.

AW: Windows XP or Windows 7?

Also, don't forget that MP under Win7 can't control standby when you press Power Off on your remote during recording. Under WinXP MP is able to refuse the standy request, under Win7 not.

I dont now what you want to do with this system ..

If you want a stable machine that does mediaportal only i would actually use vista with sp2 at the moment.
that would guarantee a stable system and no hassle with getting your mce remote to work and more of those things.(on XP)
on xp you need loads of patches to get it in shape for mediaportal, if you are gonna use dvb cards like floppydtv or so then do vista... it does everyting you need, no standby bugs etc. etc...

if you need the system for other things aswell ... ?? then I might give you another answer .. :D

I meant use MP client to try to spot how it's requesting streams for specific channels and then try to do the same with VLC. TV Server development looks dead so I'm afraid you're going to have to figure that out by yourself if it's even possible.

Fixed, I think. Certainly the vintage MP2 installer that I was using no longer installs the LAV filters. I can only assume that these were never part of the install package itself, but rather downloaded during the install, and that link no longer exists. Shame that the installer doesn't indicate this. Last time when I installed the...
