hi ge2301,
very nice work on this wmc design
just a small note, in the old days of mp1, there was a skin wmc for mp1,
as far as i remember there was a legal issue for the skin as wmc was a trade mark.
i'm not sure if still have legal issue, as wmc was stop in win 10.
better to check it again to prevent any problem to mp team.

i suggest to make the icons little deterrent then original ...

I overworked most icons (modified existing ones to avoid copyright conflicts). My understand is, that modifications are ok in terms of copyright, if mentioning MS as source somewhere. The degree of modification is a parameter to see it as "artistic" modification.

One example, is it enough to avoid problems?

Additonally there are several "official websites" as Chip.de that offer modified WMC versions incl even original icons for free download. This happened after WMC is not integrated into Windows 10 anymore. I believe that they checked what they are doing.

I can tell you, that just modifying an image is not enough to avoid copyright violations. Most important is, as you mentioned, that a source is given.
However I believe, that MS doesn't care much any more, as there are lot of "builds" for Win10 out on well known and legal pages. I won't worry to much anymore, MS doesn't sell and support WMC anymore...

May I ask where you got this Information from?
Is there an alternative EPG I can use in WMC?
I'm not sure how fast I can get a Family accepted MP2 running in the living room.

Also MS accounced that they will switch it off. There are alternatives, but I didn't investigate yet. As I also have WMC in living room, it's a shock.

Just scroll forward in your EPG and you will see after a few days it's over ...

Too bad, currently playing around with MP2 on my living room HTPC.
1st, I have the HAMA Remote Most of the keys are not working: Back, EPG, Recordings, ...
ANd when I enter TV I would prefere that EPG is shown, not channel list.
I actually dont see the Need for the channel list at all if you have the EPG which is the same with more info.

Looking now for the Input plugin I saw recently.

But I guess I will Switch back to WMC until I'm fully satisfied.

You can be happy, for WMC skin (actually this is a WMC thread and we should not discuss further offtopic) a first working MenuEditor is prepared by @Brownard.
It looks already very promising, so we are going into a good direction

I think that this will come as a surprise to the people over at www.TheGreenButton.tv.

Recently there have been problems with the EPG feed for users in the USA (may be on-going), but that has become a frequent occurrence in recent months. It is likely to be remedied within a few days.

I used WMC for five years, and am probably one of the few people who actually read the Terms and Conditions under which Microsoft supplied the EPG in the UK. The Terms and Conditions state that Microsoft will give one month's notice of discontinuance of the EPG, or the intention to start charging for it (other parts of the world may have different Terms and Conditions). I have not seen such an announcement anywhere online.

Checked my EPG yesterday evening, and it still covers about 2 weeks as usually.
So at least for Germany it's still working.
