My laptop has an IrCC transceiver is this any different?

IrCC = Infa Red Communications Controller

Its made by SMC, who also make imbedded IR ports for media centre PCs.

In control panel, it allows me to set a transceiver type:

AUTO (default) HP, IBM/Infineon/Temic, Sharp, or VISHAY Telefunken.

It also has options of min. turn around times, and speed (Max 4MBPS)

Without having to install MP and UICE on my laptop, does anyone know of any more information on the capabllities of this infa red type of port?

Thanks.

XBOX Remote / Update

Ok, I bought an XBOX remote control, which as it turns out on the back also said " / Media Center Remote".

It works great with my XBOX360, but so far not a hint of anything with my Evo's IR port. I'll dig around for settings that might open up the Evo's port.

In the meantime I've ordered from RadioShack dot com a Media Center Remote and USB receiver (about $38 ). I should have it in a couple days - and I'll let you know.

Thanks - be interesting to know if the Xbox360 remote really works as an MCE remote.

Can the 360 remote be programmed to control other devices (TV, AV amp, etc.)?

Thanks,
Deco.

I tried the Xbox 360 remote with my MP to be used with my existing MCE remote.

It works to a point. Some of the HID buttons work but things like "TV Guide" and other specialised buttons don't.
It also has some extra buttons that aren't available in MP.

A while ago MPod said he would work on the extra functions if I could get him the codes for the non working buttons, but I haven't been able to capture any (haven't been home that much to test).

They should show up in the log file as unknown commands, but I didn't see any there.

    Nvidia GeForce 3

Someone in the office just handed me a Nvidia GeForce 3 -- is this ok for MediaPortal (if it in fact works with my motherboard)???

Probably should have posted that in a different thread, but anyway, the GF3 will work with MP, but it will put more of a load on the CPU which may make your system sluggish.

You really need at least a GF5xxx or a Radeon 95xx or above cards.
(not too sure about the Radeons, don't use them myself)

    MCE Remove/Receiver

Ok - my MediaCenter remote showed up from RadioShack. I couldn't get XP Home to find any drivers, but after getting them from MP's site all was well.

The remote did activate my XBOX360, which might be an issue... And I haven't had a chance to then see if the 360 remote works with the MCE receiver.

The remote (once the drivers were installed), did work straight out of the box.

I meant use MP client to try to spot how it's requesting streams for specific channels and then try to do the same with VLC. TV Server development looks dead so I'm afraid you're going to have to figure that out by yourself if it's even possible.

I don't know about MP2 but as you said you tried MP1 too, how is the MP music config ?
