channel matching

When I import the yahooxmltv, it creates new channels.

So am I to clear my channel list, import yahooxmltv, then scan and hope for matches? If I'm not getting matches on import, I don't think it will match via scan. Then I will also have to delete the channels that I don't receive manualy.

I would also like to use the EPG from stream, as ppv wont fill in from yahooxmltv. which one will take presidence?

If nothing else, the channel names are elegant, and perhaps importing them, backup up the database, then running another query to match up the channel by sid, or channel number will work for me.

I have used xmltv in the past to change the names of my analog cable, and that worked well just importing after scan, not sure how it matched up channels, but it did! Then using the xmltv to grab epg data for analog channels worked great!

No warm and fuzzies for DVB-S right now........

Ok, it worked!!!

Here is what I did step by step:

1. Download Yahoo! Go for TV http://sites.mobile.yahoo.com/go/tv/index

2. Download latest YahooXMLTv utility from http://forums.gbpvr.com/showthread.php?t=27546

3. Ran Yahoo Go for TV Install

Can I set up my account on a computer that does not have a tuner. I can's seem to set up my program listings on my office pc which does not have a video tuner. I want to look at the guide data before I install anything on my htpc. Currently it is running mythtv. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

So this is the best we can do, MCE is looking like a feasible option again, I get problems with the time change, and if I am not getting an EPG for a channel it puts the next channel on the blank one.

I have set up yahoo XMLTV and it works great... I now have it running every 3 days.. and it deletes and puts my new xml out there. The tv server checks every 1 min for a new file and when it finds one... loads it. For the past 3 weeks I have done nothing with it... it just works in the background. It might take a little time to get it working and getting your time zone set up... but MCE or MP... I will pick MP any day!

    P.S. Never used MCE.

I agree it kinda sucks though I'm using Vista Ultimate and using MCE for the TV part and MP for everything else :(

    Match

Can you tell me how you import? I mean, I can import channels and listings from xmltv. Buy my channels are already in before i import xml. So when I import, I get dup channels.

Does this mean I delete all channels, import, then assgn the channels to a card?

Yes. Clear your channel list, clear your epg in fact. Run this method outside of the TVServer configuration program just to make sure that xmltv is in fact able to download your programming guide. Now take that xml file it creates and put it in the right spot for the epg (see instructions elsewhere in this thread). This is your programming guide. When you load up the TVServer configuration program next, it will read this xml file and from it, it will add channels to your channel listings. Now assign channels to tv cards and groups. Launch MP and go into TV guide, and all the channels with the programming information should be there.

I followed the instructions in this thread and it worked out really well for me. Are you looking for a more step-by-step version of the instructions, like a video or screen captures or something? If that's what people are looking for I'd be happy to work on something like that. Just let me know.

    Hi all.

I'm the guy who wrote the YahooXMLTv utility. I had suspended development on the grabber because of the pending Schedules Direct service but still left it available for download.

As the 9/1 deadline draws closer and I'm getting more info about what will be available/unavailable from Schedules Direct, I am considering reviving the project and finishing the bug fixes/updates. I'll make a decision by next week on that.

I just happened to come upon this thread but I will attempt to answer some questions that I noticed.

Output: the output is in an XMLTv compliant format (with a couple of added fields) so it should work with any app that imports XMLTv listings.
Multiple Listings: multiple listings are available, the GB-PVR forum thread (link posted above) has instructions fo adding multiple lineups to the Y! database. (see first three posts)
Setting up Y! with no tuners installed: again, the GB-PVR forum thread (link posted above) has instructions on how to do this.
OTA Listings: Not available with Y! but you can use an include/exclude file in YahooXMLTv to get the listings from your cable/satellite source possibly.

MCE peferred: In the same GB-PVR forum, there is a utility called MceEpg2XmlTv that I wrote that does download/exports the EPG from MCE.

one final question what happens with the time change (DST)?
It should not affect anything. The default output of YahooXMLTv has the times in UTC and MP should adjust accordingly.
