I would assume MCE's 5.1 capability depends lot of the used codecs. So the same issue could be facing on MP as well.

its the windows codecs microsoft use that cause the problems, does mp use the same ones then?

MP allows you to choose the codecs you use. The control is in your hands. :)

ok should be ok then, will give it a shot on release to use as my tv recorder and for guide info, the last time i used 1.13 the guide data was all over the place as i posted in the epg section, but now ive been trying out dvblink and have my head around using the xmltv, so hope things will work more smoothly as media centre has its own issues with some things.

If you're using XMLTV then -->this<-- may be something that you want to take a quick look at.

will give it another try once its released as media centre and 5.1 audio is buggy

I use SAF 5.02 and run an optical connection from my PC to a ONKYO amp.

I have had this working perfectly with MP 1.2 beta since its release, i installed it and adjusted the settings and never had to look at it again. Work for all my audio formats - DTS, AAC 5.1, AC3 5.1 and lots more. Just follow the guide in the first post.

I can only give praise for the SAF packages that you can find here on the forums. They are as close to "just working" as I can expect from a codec package... and I'm not a package advocate. Lean and Mean that's how those packages are setup.

    AW: 1.20 rc ?

    Hello.
Why install a Codec Pack with tons of unnecessary things meshing up the system? On Win7 you don't need much codecs at all. Simply install LAVF (that gives you all the audio- codecs you ever need and enables you to playback the well known .mkv files also).
    Downloads | 1f0.de – open-source in a closed world
With HDMI or SP/DIF Connection you are ready to go. If you own a Nvidia Graphics you can try LAV CUVID Decoder (same author, same link). This will give you better SDTV Quality but it's not a must. For older SP/DIF only enabled AVR (like mine) it could be useful to try AC3Filter.
    AC3Filter
That's all regarding codecs you have to do on Win7.

On XP this is a lot more complex as XP was never designed to be a Multimedia- OS at all...

I don't know about MP2 but as you said you tried MP1 too, how is the MP music config ? MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback. If you you don't have multichannel music you can choose WASAPI as the output and set the number of speakers to stereo. I have...
