How does TV run in the smaller windows? eg when you are in the TV guide with TV playing. Do you still get 50fps and no drops there? I don't.

Is THAT what this interlace 'fix' (included in 1.0.1.0 and subs) was all about? Getting a constant video quality (essentially in the background) as the graphics mixer is displaying text menus for navigation? While that may be qwerky, it's totally understandable as the user presses a button asking for a menu / TV-Guide as his primary focus, hence no longer interested in the quality of the video behind the text window.

I sorta thought this was the case but why worry about it? While the purist may say it's necessary, or it can be done, you'd think a careful assessment would have paired the cost of higher-performing video cards to achieve the exact same video quality during video watching against quality seen during text window overlay. I mean, if the purpose of MP is to be a fantastic front-end for watching video then doing anything to jeopardize that primary function would be seriously debated.

I thought there was an issue with ATi cards this new method addressed as well. Sorry, I'm not trying to stir the pot, or reopen any debate - there is no debate, it's a done deal. I'm one who upgraded (my video card) and moved on... in due time even the most basic video chipsets will be advanced to the point this issue will simply fade away...

I'm pleased to hear Callumgw is getting better results after his revamp. It does make me wonder what's changed from before, what's allowing him the better performance and what should he be protective to guard against installing that could deteriorate his performance in the future. Maybe it's just a function of selecting the parameters in CCC which yeild the best framerate, and even the CCC version which works best with his chipset.

I'm pretty much convinced that is the 1.0.2 that makes the difference as allmost any user having similar problems only started seing them after 1.1.0 Alpha (or even some of the SVN's before that).

Not entirely, no. I still get the odd frame drop even in full screen 1080i. Firstly, not all HD DVB stations in Australia broadcast in 1080i. Some are only 720. And remember, AUS HDTV is only Mpeg 2, not h.264. So you have to be a bit careful before you declare everything works perfectly. I just know that you can more easily see the problem with TV windowed. I also definitely could not get 1080i AVC HD cam material to play with this card without CoreAVC, and it is still not perfect either.

With the clean system I checked the MPC codecs, then put on Cyberlink (just by registering CLVsd.ax). Neither improved the picture, cyberlink actually caused audio with no video. The graphics card settings were standard as per install. Then I tried the same again with graphics card interlacing set to "bob", no improvement. Then I went back to 1.0 and got no improvement, which did surprise me. I then put on SAF4 and made sure I enabled hardware accel. This fixed 1.0 with graphics card DI=bob, so I went up to MP1.02 and the improvement was still there. So then I upped the GC DI=Vector Adaptive and still got a good image and frame rates.

NOTE: DI was also set within "settings" menu item of MediaPortal to best.....

So my guess is either the MP setup isn't correctly setting the DI, but the 'settings' option in MP is (they had a similar issue with hiding the mouse, where the flag wasn't being set properly).....OR..... SAF Hardware accel works properly and the others don't integrate well with the hardware.

I also suspect that with all the codecs I had installed things weren't quite right, or were interfering with each other. This will have contributed to the system corruption that cause me to rebuild.

I'll try to remember to look at the FPS with small windows tonight.

Using shift1 gives me the same 50fps result on full screen and menus with 1080i tv in preview window. It just dawned on me that you might want to know the frame rate for when MP is windowed, not just the TV...sorry didn't check that.

On a separate note....sound. In trying to solve this I found that all the sound settings are hidden under expert mode. I was finally able to fix my lost sub woofer issue and realised that I hadn't even had 5.1! I'd been adjusting the amp to get simulated 5.1 and 7.1 when MP was just pushing out stereo. It would be a good idea to put the simple "stereo" 3.1 speakers, 5.1 speakers, 7.1 speakers options into the simple menu - for users who don't want to access the expert mode. Similarly I used to edit file file types in the mediaportal.xml file directly, now I see I can do it in expert mode! - much simpler.

That is interesting. No I wasn't talking about running MP itself in a window - just putting TV into a window inside MP, such on the first screen you get when you go into My TV. Could you post a graph of your TV running just to confirm codecs? Clearly I could do some more work to get my 4350 working better. Not that it really matters because my passively cooled 4670 arrived today, but I would like to know what is wrong with my setup. I always thought (assumed?) it was the upgrade from 1.0 to 1.0.2 that caused my problems, which as far as when the problem first appeared, it did.

Also, just to confirm you are watching 7 HD, Nine HD or One HD? These are the only 1080i channels in Aus. ABC HD and SBS HD are 720p.

I've always been checking against OneHD..... it was a ghosting GP that gave me the irrits enough to delve back into the set-up. I didn't think the other two were actually running 1080i.

Not sure how to get the graph your referring to, any tips?

Ah OK - one essential tool for troubleshooting MediaPortal and other DirectShow player problems is graphstudio:

    RadScorpion’s blog MONOGRAM GraphStudio

    1. Install and run graphstudio
    2. Start MP in windowed mode (so you can see graphstudio)
    3. Start playing TV in MP
    4. Select "connect to remote graph" in graphstudio, and click on the id of the Mediaportal graph
    5. grab a screenshot of graphstudio and post it here
