yep that's my graph and how fullscreen performs as well. AND you are getting a little bit of jitter like me too. Not a huge problem at this level, but it indicates you are pushing the limit of the card, and it can result in some uneven display. You'll probably only notice it on really slow panning shots or rolling credits.

Now, when you have the TV in a preview window, you definitely still get 50fps and no drop / low jitter? Could you post that screenshot with SHIFT 1 active?

here you go, the graph and a screen grab of one hd and shift1

    Just note:

This channel using MPEG2, not h.264.

Hi Hoborg, yes all AUS TV is MPEG 2. No h.264 in AUS. This is why the 4350 works at all.

Just to confirm what I see with the 4350 while watching MPEG 2 HDTV.

In fullscreen TV, 50 fps, almost 0 drops (very ocassional drop)
In fullscreen TV with OSD up, 50 fps, almost 0 drops
In main TV window with preview active (ie 1st screen in My TV), about 40fps, 20 or so drops.
In TV guide with preview active, about 40 fps, 20 or so drops.

My test system with the active cooled 4670 is flawless. No drops and 50fps everywhere.

It is interesting that the preview windows have the performance hit, but I guess that is to do with the 3D gui rendering on top of the video display. Not sure why the OSD behaves differently from a performance perspective. Did expect to see the same behaviour there.

OSD is not as complex thing to render as the whole MP GUI.

Yeah to confirm on tv guide of other screens with the tv stream running in the little windows I get about the same FPS as shown above.

Yes I get the jitter and yes I see the slow pan artefacts you mention. So I'll probably keep a watch for a good 4670 or better in the future. But at the moment very happy, it's a big improvement on what I had!

ah good. For a moment there you were blowing my whole theory about what hardware is sufficient for MP out of the water ;)

As I say, I think you will struggle with h.264 1080p and 1080i video material with this card, and that will push you in the direction of either an ATI 4670 or an Nvidia 9500 (or better). A stop gap measure is CoreAVC, but its not perfect with this hardware.

I'll try footage from my Canon HF20 tonight and see how it goes....I know it'll be a challenge 'cause my 8800gts at work struggles with it.

sorry for the delay, but the forum and website was down when I first tried on Friday.

Well I was a bit shocked based on all the issues I've had trying - largely unsuccessfully - to get these 1080i 24mbs files to play natively on my 8800gts at work, But they work perfectly on the current install of MP1.02 with the 4350 and SAF4. Again good solid 50fps and no frame drops, a just a little jitter. now if only I could get that performance elsewhere....

Wow, I am surprised the 4350 handled that. I scratched my head for ages trying to get the card to work as good as I did.

Well I took the hardware path on the weekend, upgraded to a 4670, and also took the opportunity to upgrade to Catalyst 9.8. Now all TV (fullscreen or preview window) runs 50fps 0 drops and 0 jitter. So happy with that outcome too.
