I'm putting together a HTPC and still trying to find the best front-end... I will be using 1920x1080 and that's a huge factor for me.

I'll make the same offer again that i've made in the past...if somebody is willing to do the graphics and maintain the skin, i'll take care of the xml. I honestly don't have time to take on another skin; but i can adapt the xml in the 1280 skins fairly quickly to 1920x1080.

    Hi Boilermaker.

What does someone need to start doing 1920x1080 graphics?

Any recomendations, hints, tips to a newbie would be greatly appriciated.

Depending on what skin you are basing your work on, i would start with references.xml. All your basic images should be listed in there with their size; various buttons, listcontrol rows, etc. Basically look for anything within the tags texturefocus and texturenofocus. MP doesn't do a bad job or resizing them on the fly, but if you want a clean, consistent looking skin you want to resize these images in paint shop pro or photoshop to what's specified in references.xml. Even tho these files make up only a small part of the total number of files displayed, they are the ones you see most often.

Photoshop does not create vector based graphics, Illustrator and Freehand do.

edit: whoops...I thought I was on the last page and missed by a couple. Ignore the comment :)

Are there any 1920x1080 skins yet?

This thread is a bit old now but I would like to see if there has been any progress on native 1920x1080 skins. Anyone?

As much as I would love to make one myself, skin design is not up my alley. I can appreciate the asthetic of a good skin but limited patients and creativity prevents me from actually producing one with any sort of caliber :) I am comms programmer not a graphics person. Right, now I have pre-emped any "make one yourself" comments, are there any out there yet? I have googled but with no success.

I have read through this whole thread and a lot of the arguments against skins that big are based on PC performance and lack of systems/TVs actually capable of handling 1080p. Nearly a year has passed since this thread began and if we have learned anything, it is that PCs get faster and more powerful over time AND Early adopter technologies such as 1080p TVs eventually become mainstream. In my opinion, the time is now. Another thing we know is that home theatre now has a standard - 1080p (as well as the lower ones but who wants to settle for them right?).

I honestly love MP but the lack of 1920x1080 skins is forcing me to underutilise my hardware which is a real shame. I want to stand by the MP product and even start developing plugins soon, but it's hard to stay faithful to a product if it's once shiny finish is starting to become a little lackluster. I am not trying to be harsh, just honest.

Has anyone made any head way into this?

    Cheers,
    Howard

To other people reading about this 'issue', Doskabouter provided me with a fix/patch. It is a modified version of tswriter.ax which solved the problem with dolby digital plus audio. I want to thank Doskabouter for all his time and energy he put into resolving this!!

i love how subtitles are implemented in the MP2 videoplayer, this is just perfect. 1080p playback is also very good. But video playback in MP2 is buggy when playing 4k material. Therefore: PLEASE add an option for an external video player! I'd LOVE to have VLC back as videoplayer, like in MP1! This works perfectly. You will make a...

Interesting. :coffee: I always have DVB subtitles enabled in "MP Config", but I actually switch on subtitles only for those films that have deafening sound effects and music, combined with inaudible dialogue. I have never noticed the problem that you have described, but I also use the EVR renderer, and not the Madvr renderer. So...

Thanks for explaining. I found a passing reference to this here: https://www.team-mediaportal.com/wiki/display/MediaPortal1/HID%20Profiles which I had overlooked in the past. I would find it logical for a created custom profile to be automatically activated, but until that happens, I will try to create a wiki page for the current...
