SVG images are not available in MP and may never be, and the existing skins don't scale up to 1920x1080 as nicely as I'd like - they don't utilize the real estate as well as a 1080p native skin would. And I doubt a 1920x1080 skin will scale down to lower resolutions very well since the font sizes would be too small and things would look squished.
My basic idea was (being naiive when it comes to skins) that MP didnt have to support SVG. Some kind of local "renderer" would do basically the same thing as you do in photoshop when you export the (internal) vector-oriented data to a pixel oriented format.

To MP it would appear as though the file was downloaded directly from you.

Perhaps I'm not understanding what you mean. When you run a 1920x1080 skin at a lower resolution MP will already scale all the images and fonts down - is that what you're talking about? The only issue would be that fonts may look a bit too small. But I think this is a lot more preferable than scaling a small resolution skin up in size because that makes the pixels in images jaggy.

Imn talking about scaling vector images instead of scaling bit mapped images. A 5x5-pixel icon cannot look good when scaled to 6x6 pixels. If the original vector content is scaled however, the result may look good.

I totally agree. But it's also a lot more work to create vector graphics. Does anybody even really want to create SVG images to use in MP? I don't even have software to do it. I'd argue why not just create one 1920x1080 bitmap skin and let MP scale it down to the lower resolutions like 720p or 768p? It works reasonably well.

indeed downscaling ALWAYS works better than upscaling

now if the skinning engine of MP could include some nice downscale procedure, then most of not all skins (and the base skin for sure) could scale down rather than up

it is becoming vital to have a nice 16:9 skin maintained in the main distribution - in fact it is getting more important than 4:3 skins by the day...

I dont know anything about skins so just ignore me if im wrong =)

But I guess you are using photoshop or something similar to create "synthetic" images? There has to be som plugin/utilty for saving those vector-based *.psd files as svg without any additional work?

Then, of coursem one would still have to create an off-line local SVG->MP-compatible skin renderer taking screen size and resolution as inputs.

And the skin designer would still have to compose a skin thinking of absolute screen size (not resolution) as well as the screen resolution (especially for small screens with low resolution)

This is getting off the topic. If a new topic is needed then create one or find one that matches the subject you're looking for.

    Hey guys

It will be some time before i get a 1080p/i screen ...and just wasnt to know if more than the handful of people here are 1920x1080 compatible ...i mean pixel for pixel on a screen ..not upsized

Can we get a poll going to find out who wants a 1920x1080 skin ?

Seems a reasonable place to start.

How about putting a poll on the mp homepage.

There is a poll in another thread about resolutions mp users are using, looked like 1080 is rare. But that's not a good enough reason for me to not work on one :)

I'm still in the tinkering and learning stage, and flip flopping between updating bluetwo, and getting a skin of my own designed. I'll probably end up with something in between.

To other people reading about this 'issue', Doskabouter provided me with a fix/patch. It is a modified version of tswriter.ax which solved the problem with dolby digital plus audio. I want to thank Doskabouter for all his time and energy he put into resolving this!!

i love how subtitles are implemented in the MP2 videoplayer, this is just perfect. 1080p playback is also very good. But video playback in MP2 is buggy when playing 4k material. Therefore: PLEASE add an option for an external video player! I'd LOVE to have VLC back as videoplayer, like in MP1! This works perfectly. You will make a...

Interesting. :coffee: I always have DVB subtitles enabled in "MP Config", but I actually switch on subtitles only for those films that have deafening sound effects and music, combined with inaudible dialogue. I have never noticed the problem that you have described, but I also use the EVR renderer, and not the Madvr renderer. So...

Thanks for explaining. I found a passing reference to this here: https://www.team-mediaportal.com/wiki/display/MediaPortal1/HID%20Profiles which I had overlooked in the past. I would find it logical for a created custom profile to be automatically activated, but until that happens, I will try to create a wiki page for the current...
