[solved] 2nd Client - MP2 screensaver disconnects server (2 Viewers)

jayit-PC is my laptop, running just the MP2 client.
'Ascension - MP2 Client' is just the client name I gave to my MP2 client though right, not my PC name (should be ascension in DNS) right, so that should no affect anything DNS related

I am using an appliance called Untangle 10, it is dishing out DHCP and is the main DNS server by default.
As I posted above, there are no DNS issues as I could ping all PCs using their DNS names
There have been no changes on my network other than me changing the domain from example.com to jayhome to prevent any possible issues.
I just disabled a default rules to "allow DNS to non-wan"

You are right, I shared out the drives to make it one less click for me to access them manually not the best security, but it has not caused me any issues in over 4 years of using MP. Could I change the permissions on the hidden folders to something that MP won't try to import? If yes, what would they be?

I am not really having any network related issues browsing shares or anything, the only issue I am having is MP2 clients disconnecting from the server.
I appreciate you taking all this time to help me, I am sure we are close.

Well here is the thing and @morpheus_xx can correct me if I am wrong.
The MP2 client has the capability to suspend sleep mode yet I have not yet tried in on my dedicated MP2 client.
From what I can see in the logs, either the server is staying awake (i.e. the 2am media scan), or is being woke up by the MP2 software.
Ping is an ok test but are you testing it both ways?
ping -a 172.16.2.2 ( -a asked for a name to be returned if valid) (what name does it respond with? )
Ping the same -a for the other IP's, what names return
ping winserver
ping ascension

netstat -f returns fully qualified domain names on the nic is it run from

Either way, the server and client continue to complain about DNS names and it is possible that if the client disconnects from the server that the software over ride would no longer be in effect.

I guess I will need to turn sleep mode on with my client, start MP2 and let it run overnight. I currently have everything (screensaver/sleep/ whatever) all disabled on my systems. Maybe its time I test it.

Also, my server and client never go to sleep, I just disable the monitor after 20mins or something.

Go thru each of them... It might be possible there is something else being turned off

Ok, so I did all the test you mentioned, and uploaded the results.
under the client zip there is a network test.docx file, this has all of the ping -a results from both the client and the server.

In each zip there is also a netstat result when connected to the server, and once the connection times out, as well as the client and server logs.

as for power settings, I even have it so the HDDs don't spin down as I thought maybe that was the issue.

Rebooting the client PC does re-establish the connection to the server.

On your client, open a command prompt and do a
ipconfig /all
I need the output

The reason being is (and I do not know how I did not see this before)
There appears to be Multiple IP's assigned to this machines network port

172.16.2.3
192.168.126.1
192.168.62.1
It is most likely that traffic is getting lost in routing

Also, if that is true, MP2 will have issues with Client PCs running VMWARE

Very interesting.
I know some of the Dev's are running one type or another of VM but beyond that I have no information on how they are doing it.
If (and I do say if) multi address is supported, I have no clue of how or what needs to be done for MP2 to handle it.
For my job I have to run Secure VPN connections but because of what I do, I always disconnect from other networks while on my VPN.
I have reached my limits of knowing what to do that might help with this configuration.
Give the Dev's a little time. I am sure they might have more of an idea....

Well there is one more thing I am going to try, I will remove my extra interfaces by uninstalling my VMWARE
and there is also a 'bypass filters' setting in this untangle router, which will ignore all settings.
I appreciate all the help, and I will post anything new I find out.

Actually, Can you just Disable those connections?
Then you do not have to uninstall it
