yes I also was using untangle for years and this version 10. or 10.1 has some problems..dns has changed you are correct about the dns has to be static was one of the first gotcha in untangle 10. 10.1 for any device that has a static ip on your lan has to have a static dns entry..
untangle is more locked down vs the 9.x meaning it will not let traffic out or in from the wan side as easy as version 9.x with out creating a bunch of rules in the router. you will find little help in the untangle forums.. I am afraid besides the easy fixes.. they are a paid support company meaning that is how untangle makes money is to sell support. the 3 people who often answer questions on the untangle forum are two employees that founded the company dmoris and jcoffe and guy named sky night that is a reseller of there product and that is how he makes money..

as far as your setup you are correct.. I think the multiple interfaces are probably confusing the client or server side.

I would try and install the server on pc with single interface and ip address same for the client you are using one interface and one ip address.

Get a cheap plastic router and put in place of untangle for testing and see how the application works then.

I have done this before with untangle had to pull it out of the mix to fix a problem and see if it was a networking problem on the lan side or the router causing some problem like dns or dhcp etc..

good luck..

Yes, that's what I meant, I am trying it now :)
@nms systems
Thanks for the reply, my server is currently setup as HTPC only, nothing running on it but MP2 and my usenet downloader.
I will be putting my server and client on bypass filters, I remember I had it like this before on UT9.
Also, for the static DNS entries, does it require the domain suffix at the end or no?
ie - winserver - 172.16.2.2
or
winserver.jayhome - 172.16.2.2

yes I was going to say that before sorry you need the full .com or what ever you have there. in fact if you leave that empty on the untangle side it will break all kinds of things in 10. 10.1..that is why they use the example.com entry there cause they can not leave it blank.

the bypass rule will help the rack being bypassed and for qos of service rules to work if you have any on there yet..

but I have seen in the past is that even in bypass untangle will still restrict access to application ports.

then there is the problem of having two clients on the lan side connecting to the same vpn host on the internet.
they never did figure out that problem with untangle or should I say call support was there official answer on the untangle forum so
us free people were shut out once again..[DOUBLEPOST=1392228947][/DOUBLEPOST]so it should be like this..winserver.jayhome.com or .net or .us etc..

also if you have not done so already disable the windows firewall on both the server and the client.

Well if this static DNS does not work, I will try a host file on both PCs, and if that fails, I have UT9.4 on USB ready to install.
and if all of that fails, maybe I wait for MP2 Beta1 lol
which is too bad, because I really love the idea of server client for MP
Maybe if I get bored one day, I'll take out my UT box from the network and try my wireless router as suggested.

Thanks to everyone so far for the help.

    Have you tried MP1?
It is very stable. Lots of plugins. I actually run both on my server/client.
There is a new release for MP1 that is very close to becoming public - 1.7.0 I think..
Anyways, I hope it all works out for you...

Yes, I have been running MP1 since version 1.1 or something around there.
I just wanted to try out MP2 as it has the client/server setup, which is nice for my home PC and 2 laptops to run as clients.
I still run MP1 as my main HTPC for my living room.

So I just wanted to give another update.
I bypassed my Untangle 10 router, and put in a DLINK DIR-601 Router.
I get the same issues with my clients as with the Untangle Box, which is my global shares get disconnected after so much idle time, kind of disappointing, perhaps it will be resolved with the MP2 beta.
