Wow thanks for the great application! Finally sorted it out and it works like a charm on my HTC Desire Z running mediaportal 1.2.1! Just love it! I made video to showcase all its functions if anyone is keen to have a look! with all the issues on this thread I thought it might be good to make a howto video of the steps i took to get it all working! Coming soon! but for now the showcase is here...

aMPdroid Showcase! remote control mediaportal and live streaming of TV HTC Desire Z Android 2.3.3 - YouTube

I'd embed it here but don't know how to or if i'm even allowed to?

Thanks again for the great programs!!

Hi loc, what phone app did you use to stream the tv to your phone?

Hi loc, what phone app did you use to stream the tv to your phone?

I'm not sure what you mean? The whole thing is running off aMPdroid 0.8 using the internal viewer?

Hope this answers your question?

Cheers

What is 'the internal viewer'? The default phone video application? I thought you could only stream live tv to your phone with vPlayer? Cheers.

Hi Mate

Yeah i didn't install any external players just used whatever the aMPdroid app loaded. Also as far as i understand at the moment its the only player that can seek as well.

Cheers

Ok cool, thanks for clearing that up. I've been using vPlayer with inconsistent results. Will try the internal player when I get home tonight. Cheers.

Actually i did install vplayer in the first instance but found it a little hit and miss as well so i removed it. Haven't had much drama with the one it defaults to.

Good Luck.

Cheers

I think I should clarify the situation a bit: There are currently a few options to view videos/tv on ampdroid and if you're not an android specialist it's probably hard to understand it:

    Internal player vs. External Player

When the internal player is used aMPdroid will use the stock video playback component that is available for developers to integrate into android apps. This is the same component that is used in the default video application. The big drawback with this component is that the required video codecs were only introduced in Android 2.3 so it won't work on older devices

Using the external player means that aMPdroid will initialise the stream and then launch one of the installed video players with the url to the video. Most of the available android videoplayers are based on mencoder/ffmpeg so they will be able to play the video on older devices also. However as I don't have full control over these (I can only launch a video and wait for the result) seeking IS NOT possible in the video player directly. What you need to do is go back into aMPdroid (hitting the back button), then use the timeline to seek to the desired location and then start the external player again.

    Internal streaming vs. RTSP streaming
RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) is the network protocol used by the MediaPortal tv server to stream the tv signal over the network. This is the same tv stream MediaPortal clients connect to when showing tv. Unfortunately neither the internal player, nor most of the external player can play the streams. Currently only these player are able to play the tv stream to my knowledge: vPlayer, MoboPlayer. That is why for internal streaming the video is transcoded to a format that the internal player understands (mpeg ts with aac audio over http).

    Current issues with streaming
Streaming is a difficult topic, even more so on android where there are a lot of devices, some with better implementations of the video player, some with worse ones (Galaxy S).

Oxan has worked very hard (big thx from me) on the streaming framework for MpExtended, which can use ffmpeg and vlc for streaming.

The TV functionality seems to be partially broken though - I can view my recordings and see my scheduled recordings, but I can't get past the list of channel groups under either "channels" or "epg".
Can you post your tv4home logs?

Now that's interesting. I emptied the log and started a new session. As always, the EPG shows me a combo with the correct channel groups (including "all channels") but nothing else, and the EPG will only show the channel groups as well. The logs (tv server, tv4home and mediaportal) show either nothing at all or simply record the device connecting and disconnecting with no other messages. The tv4home log is empty.

Re: AW: [Android] aMPdroid 0.8 - Streaming and more

Hello how about a Roadmap ? I would like to see when it si plannend to release a new version and what has it include. Not exactly dates. Because it is a long time ago and no new version. Is the developmennt difficult ? It is a good app, and it works good. But there are some Bugs, so it not suitable to use it really.

    My impression:

    1. The Tv-Function is very good ! It works for me without really bugs.

improvements: maybe only, grouping series and switch the channel over the EPG

    2. The Video Section is good bhut could be better

improvements: - see a watched oder unwatched status
    - possible to sort (Rating, wachted,Year, genre etc. )

    3. Music section is good but could be better

improvements: - searching for title, artist, album etc
    - possible to sort(rating,year,genre etc.)
    - more Views (Year,Genre etc.)
    - maybe a custom view, so you can see only Songs with agood rating...
    - watched status
    - streaming to the phone

    4. WifiRemote is very good but some improvements

    improvements
    - In the PlayingNow Screen for music a lot more information (Rating, Love and banned,it is a favorit etc.)
    - possible to rate, add the song to favorites or Playlist, loved or banned the song
    - Maybe you should see in with Screen you are and what you have selected. When you are in the Contextmenu you should
see this, and when you select the item "Add to playlist" you should see it too

I know the Website where you can vote for a feature, but you don't see it is planned or not. I like to see what we will get in the Future ;-)

Can I vote for the Genre view in Music also - at the moment I just use the remote control. Also a view in TV series for unwatched would be very welcome, again only remote is useful for me now. I know too many series and too much music but what can you do!
