You will find that a Forum title search for "blu" will give you plenty of answers to your question
The short answer is that blu-ray is encrypted and you need a licensed player to decode it. There are a couple of popular players that have plugin support with MP.
ACtually, that is not entirely correct (the part about searching might be though ;-)).
MediaPortal can play Blu-ray, with a little help. AnyDVD HD is used for stripping the disc of the encryption. After this, you can play the Blu-ray using the internal player. You just have to either find the correct stream on the disc or if you use MovingPictures the plugin can do this for you.
The problem is, MediaPortal does nopt recognize and show Subtitles. It doesn't recognize the audio tracks either, but it will play the audio, and you can switch between the streams (although you are doing it blind, since you don't know which is which).
So if you don't care about subtitles (I know I do, so this is not an option for me), you can actually play your Blu-rays internally in MediaPortal.
Otherwise you need and external player, like PowerDVD or Total Media Theatre.
The last option is to rip your Blu-rays to harddrive and then either demux only the subtitles or demux the entire disc, repacking it into .mkv. Then MediaPortal will play it, and show you subtitles correctly.
See this thread, where I got some answers on how to demux Blu-rays.
I believe I look up my licens to PowerDVD which I have somewhere.
MP along with PowerDVD should do the job.
but as of now - BluRay is something I will look into within a few weeks.
Next big step is 4 The Record
If you don't yet have the Blu-ray drive, chances are that a license to PowerDVD is bundled with it when you buy.
And yes, go get ForTheRecord up and running. Your HTPC will love you for it
4 The record really sounds great. eventhough the most important thing for me here is the ability to access my EPG and schedule recordings.
The rest is pure benefits
When I bought my BluRay Drive there was a CD with it. I believe it also contains a player.
I just went through my mails, and Im afraid that my licens to my PowerDVD has been lost with a computer crash I had some time ago
I don't know about MP2 but as you said you tried MP1 too, how is the MP music config ?
MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback.
If you you don't have multichannel music you can choose WASAPI as the output and set the number of speakers to stereo.

I have also had this problem in the past. There are two components to this problem:
Your internet router is pinging the HTPC at regular intervals in order to see if the HTPC is still present on the network.
The network adapter in the HTPC has "Wake on Lan" enabled. So at the end of a recording, the HTPC transitions from away mode to...

TV Server plugins are listed on this page, and "EPG Cleaner" can be downloaded from this page.
Note: I don't know what bitness the plugin has. It might be 32-bit, or it might be "any cpu". The plugin is not listed by the "MP Extensions" tool, so I don't know whether it has been tested with the most-recent MP releases.
