Hi all,
This is my first post here.
i also have had a lot of "fun" getting subtitles to work properly.
I use the klite codec pack for my codec needs, installed as playback only with vmr9 enabled. I leave the defaults for container management which currently seems to be basically haali for most containers.
When playing back videos that uses haali to split i find that it gets 2 copies of the subtitles displayed, due to both the haali splitter and direct vobsub. to fix this you just go into direct vobsub config, misc tab and check hide subtitles.
Then in MP setup tick show subtitles.
This seems to make media portal display the subs by default.
I use the microsoft MCE remote (euro version) and i bind the teletxt colour buttons for things like switch audio stream, switch subtitle stream and toggle subtitles.
The haali splitter can also load your preffered audio and subtitle tracks. id est. say it has eng and jpn for audio, eng and ger subtitles. You could have it outselect jpn for audio and eng for subtitles even if they are not the default choices for the file.
As a side note the haali splitter also handles chapters quite well.
I use these settings to primarily watch anime and it works great. Works perfectly for matroska, mp4, ogg, etc. for containers, with mp3, aac variants and ogg etc. for audio, with ssa, ass, sub, srt etc. for subtitles. Also works with nero digital AVC.
Any questions? Feel free to reply.
