.mkv's are still not working.

A quick overview of my system specs.

MB: ASUS P5Q SE
RAM: 3GB
Video: ASUS 4670 via HDMI
CPU: E8400

Do I have to set something in MediaPortal so it recognises Haali is installed?

Should I try the K-Lite mega codec pack? Or CCCP?

You are having problems with this.

Recommend you use the Vista codec pack by shark007, please uninstall haali and ffdshow prior to installing.

This should correct any registry\merit settings that may have been broken.

Before you install above, run filmerit (link in my sig) and check for any filter errors that may exist on your system, use the padlock key to unlock, if any repairs are necessary.

To use hardward acceleration for h.264 go to the mkv folder, select enable dxva, then chose the "use dxva when it is available), now do your mkv play and you should not have to load MP to prove this as they will now work by default under windows.

Under the MP config video\tv h.264 settings chose MPC codecs, for normal mpeg use the M$ codecs.

Thankyou for your reply Paranoid Delusion.

Where would I find the Vista Codec Pack by shark007?

I would once again like to thank Paranoid Delusion for helping me out.

However for the options in MP config there is no MPC codec but I chose ffdshow which was listed and now works.

Would you still suggest me to switch to MS Codecs fro MPEG2?

go to start menu, vista codec pack, 32bit tools\mkv select enable dxva codec, you will now have use of the MPC codecs, there is another setting there which is, enable dxva where available, select that.

Now all file playback which supports video acceleration from your graphics card, will use the MPC codec, not ffdshow.

MS codec is one of the best out there and with your hardware it is not necessary to worry about dxva as mpeg2 is not that cpu intensive on modern pc systems.

I find it very strange that you aren't able to play mkv's.
Does this go for several files - or just the one?
    AVI's etc is working fine?

    It is working now.

But before as far as I am aware it was all mkvs but all AVIs were working.

I don't think so, because MP has no way of knowing at which timestamp the external player stopped playback. Best way to achieve this would be to use an auto-resume feature in your external player itself. (MPC-HC can do that, I don't know about VLC)

I don't know about MP2 but as you said you tried MP1 too, how is the MP music config ?
