Brilliant! Installing this codec also fixed another problem, whereby one ripped Blu-ray disk - U-571 - wouldn't play - MP just froze - although all other Blu-ray rips were fine.
MP now plays and records everything - what a great product and superb support.
I'll try to improve my search technique; I did look for this problem but couldn't find it.
The only ways I can think of to say thanks are 1) buy you a few beers should we ever meet; 2) make a donation. I'lll start with 2).

MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback.
