Hi! Sorry for being so late to answer.
I got to show the desktop by disabling the "always on top" option in MP, but now I've got some other little troubles... :)

Problem a)
I need to go back MP by pressing the "Windows Media Center button" (W in the remote), but it doesn't work.
I tried disabling MCE services on MP's configuration, but it still doesn't work.
I have searched a lot in the forum, but no success (my English isn't perfect, so I don't know if I missed anything during my quest)

Problem b)
I'd like to show the Shut down/Suspend/Hybernate menu instead of directly shutting down the system when I press the "switch off" button in the remote, but I don't know how to do it, because when I want to capture the key, the system simply shut down LOL :D

Any idea, please??
Thanks a lot and sorry for my crazy English :p

Enanno: I don't ever use the "Power" button on the remote, I use the "Close" button. But once again, if u try and assign it to a different function it just simply closes the config when u press it. You can use a 3rd party app to change these buttons, but I do my absolute best NOT to run a 3rd party app. To that end I have had to deal with no MCE/MP button at all. I do believe that IF you get the MCE/MP button to bring up MP then the button becomes much more handy. For instance say you are in Moving Pictures and you press the MP button, BOOM it takes you back home, same for every other place in MP... it will take you home. But lets say you are at the home screen when u press it, THEN it pulls up the shutdown/restart/close menu.

Sorry I dont have any tips on how to do this, but there are lots of post that deal with remote mapping with third party software.. like GhostEvent and such.

    Hello,

I know that this is an old thread, but last week I received this controller and some buttons don't generate any kind of event on my pc.
I'm running mediaportal in winxp, and the usb IR receiver is recognized as a HID device. I installed EventGhost in order to check wich key combinations are sent to the pc when the buttons are pressed. Some of them (fastforward, for example) simply don't send anything (well, in fact something is send because the light on the receiver blinks, but EventGhost doesn't detect it)

Is it possible that something changed with this remote? Has anyone tried it with winxp?

    Thank you

I found you need to tick that you are using a HID remote in the MP config and then the Fwd button works. Without this ticked I could use all the other buttons I tried, but not this one. Weird.

    Thank you Wickedlemon,

as soon as I have some time I'll try it and post the result. It seems that i'm the only one still using XP.

    Regards

Spent some time getting this remote set up over the weekend and have to say I'm extremely happy with it, especially considering it ony cost just over fiver from Dealextreme.

Modded the previous key mapping provided to get all the keys I needed and deleted some I didn't. Then used AutoHotKey to redefine some of the other keys, such as volume, mute, desktop, WMC etc so they don't do anything.

If there was a way to force cursor mode and disable the mouse toggle button this would be perfect.

The mapping for Mute and Volume are in the mappings I provided, are you saying you do not want to use Mute and Volume? The Media button can be disabled using MP itself. I prefer not to use any third party apps.

Are you asking if there is a way to keep it mouse mode and make the toggle button do something else?

The MediaPortal key mapping is designed to match keypresses to commands MP accepts. If I'm understanding correctly, this won't stop Windows shortcuts working? Volume Up/Down, Mute, Show Desktop, Close etc are all recognised by Windows and will do their Windows jobs regardless of what Mediaportal says. I didn't quite get why you included mappings for volume as these seem unnecessary. Is this correct, or does MP interecept these key presses?

AutoHotKey allowed me to reasign these Windows commands so my remote would control a media player and not act as a mini keyboard for a computer. I don't want the user to be able to show desktop, close media portal or move a mouse cursor around as it sits alongside my av equipment and is intended to be used for that purpose only. Besides, my amp does a perfectly good job of turining the volume up and down :) I don't need the blue button to do anything else, but I just really don't want any mouse capabilities.

WOW, okay. First off, yes you can assign the volume and mute keys. The only keys that have actual windows commands are show desktop, media button, close/power and toggle. I have 5 HTPCs spread through out the house and all of them have this remote on them. I dont disable any buttons but the media button using the options in MP Config. Everyone in the house knows not to push the other buttons, and the mouse function has been more than handy in MANY situations such as restarting MP after a crash (yes this WILL happen) and restarting the computer after windows/hardware updates itself.

But to each his own, if disabling those buttons is important due to kids or having many friends family over at many different times, then yes AutoHotKey is the way to go imo.

finally received shipment from China via Deal Extreme (postal strike in Canada delayed it further). Slowly tinkering with it.

    Using Keyboard Input plugin:

    1. Hitting power sends to suspend mode. Hitting power when in suspend mode does nothing (was expecting the PC to power up). What a bummer! Red LED light blinks in the dongle, but no wakey wakey. I have a Rii mini-keyboard which wakes it up fine (uses a USB RF dongle) so its not the motherboad and/or BIOS.

    2. If I'm playing a video and I hit the back button, the video still plays in a small window while you navigate somewhere else. From trial and error, hitting 'x' on the keyboard brings the video back to fullscreen. Using a mouse, you can click on the small window and make it full screen. What about using the remote? Any suggestions for where should I put a new key mapping for 'x'? Or what's the equivalent "Action" for x or (Key Pressed for that matter). I have tried Actions "Show Fullscreen", "Show GUI" and "Toggle Windowed Fullscreen" with no effect. Perhaps someone can confirm?

Any comments regarding issue 1? How do you bring your HTPC back from suspend?

    Cheers,

I dont use suspend but by toggleing the remote into mouse and pressing left/right up/down might work. I will look into the matter some more.

As for 'x' i used show fullscreen i think
