The latest nVidia and ATI cards have onboard mpeg2 and h264 acceleration. Are there any tips on how to utilize this through MP?

You need to use a "commercial" video decoder that supports DxVA (hardware acceleration) for MPEG2 and H.264 - for example the CyberLink decoders.

Most (if not all) of the "open source" video decoders do not use or support hardware acceleration - decoders like MPV, Descaler, ffdshow, CoreAVC, etc...

    HTH?

(BTW, this post was in the incorrect section - "Tips and Tricks" is for known working tips - not for support queries)

I'm using the PowerDVD 7.3 DirectShow filter to decode my x264 videos, I have checked "Use DxVA". Still I have >50% CPU utilization on my Athlon 4200+.

I have a GeForce 8600GS and the nvidia driver 169.xx (dunno the correct version). What's wrong with it?
