Me, too!

I spent about 4 hours try and re-trying the various steps, until I came across this gem:

NB: I also discovered it is essential to use the following frame size in the card configuration in MP, "720x480 NTSC ITU-601 D1 (recommended)". This is not the default choice.

That was it. The current version of MP includes the XML file fixes, the right pinouts and device IDs, and given that I only installed one version of MP, the MPEG filter was also properly registered.

I'd suggest that since the frame size noted above is "Recommended" that it also be the default. Is there a reason it's not? (Full disclosure: I did have it set there, changed it to something else - it worked last night then didn't - DOH!)

:D

Does anyone else have this problem?: While using MP's built-in tv plugin (not the tv server), trying to watch any atsc channel only brings up an empty dialogue box. This goes away if MP doesn't use fullscreen exclusive mode, or if it's not in fullscreen period.

My question is: Should I just return the card for a full refund and buy a supported card, or with enough tweaking can I get the HVR-1600 to work flawlessly? I have 30 days to return the card to Circuit City. It's about a 9 minute drive. I have a 3.2ghz machine that is dedicated to OTA ATSC so hardware encoding isn't necessary and I already have the Hauppauge remote from my old pvr-150, so I don't need the remote. Besides, I want a macro remote that will control TV,PC, and Receiver anyway.

I recently purchased a hauppauge HVR-1600 from Circuit City and installed MP V0.2.3.0. Everything seems to work, however MP crashes after so many minutes of viewing or after changing the channel a few times. Could this be eliminated by using another card, or is this simply a problem I am going to run into with any ATSC tuner?

I'm a new user to mediaportal, but I've already found it more ergonomic than SageTV and beyond TV and the awful Wintv that came with the hardware. That being said, I really want whatever card I use to watch TV to be fully functional within Media Portal.

I thought I should probably ask this first before spending a weekend reading tips on how to get this card to work.

I've had excellent performance from the 1600 as well as my ATi under MP -- I have them both installed and enjoy how it can record two shows at once... smooth. Read my note here to give you a sense of how great it is. I don't use it for analog but DID get analog working as well as A/V inputs (to record DirecTV via S-Video). I can't say the same of the ATi HDTV-Wonder. It has excellent ATSC but can NOT get MP to play nice for its analog section. I know that's because of the Graph-Edit stuff and the fact that the ATi has pure s/w encoding -- necessary for analog to digital conversion -- where the Hauppauge is on-board encoding for the analog. (ATSC is already in Mpeg-2 format.)

I'd say try slowing down... change channels deliberately and wait. If your remots is sending multi-commands, tune THAT in your Configuration/Remote settings. I simply LOVE how well the Hauppauge remote functions under MP... I'd had another post to this effect... I'll look and see if I can find it.

Edit: Found it... look at THIS post about my MP setup.

Andrew, could you tell me how you were able to get the Directv EPG, channel listings, and tuning to work? I installed the schedules direct plugin, subscribed to schedulesdirect, and created a lineup.

When I do a channel scan, its only scanning for the broadcast tv and never tunes the satellite channels.

Btw, I have a hvr 1800 (atsc/ntsc) I have an antenna hooked up for the broadcast tv, and i have my directv stb also plugged in via svid to my card.

Haven't done that. I use my DirecTV DVR to record satelite channels and MP for my OTA. I'm guessing you want to save a couple o' bucks by recording the S-video (yuck -- 800x600 analog) output via MP. As I understand it, you have to establish each as an external channel back there in the TV Channels section of the Configuration. Each would use the s-video input as it's source, but each would have a seperate entry -- I don't think MP can perform such an external scan like what you'd need. READ the text on that External tab about IR blaster, etc.

Assuming you have to establish each of those external channels, pick a handful that you'd want to record and see how it works. And, if you find there is an automated scan... report back! The reason I suspect NOT is that a scan is performed at the Capture Card level, not the TV Channels level.

Oh... I DID get the A/V input "working" in the sense that I can tune to a single channel (had no need to create but one) which passes the A/V input to my display whereby I can then Timeshift or schedule MP to record. I'm not doing anything to allow the Hauppauge to generate any IR-Blaster commands. I simply use the IR-Blaster to listen to my 45-key remote to control MP via a remote, allowing me to place the wireless keyboard/mouse on the table and use the (more convienent) remote.

Many people have had issue getting the analog portion of their tuner cards working. I'm among them in that my ATi is still incapable of tuning anything Analog. I was trying to post that the 1600 works quite well for ALL of its capability: ATSC, NTSC & A/V, and its remote is a HUGE bonus which really improves the user-friendliness of MP.

I think 1.38 is easier, it's a minor addition, judging by the lack of bugs, 1.39 is still a long way off. Ideally, the TuningParameters settings would be moved to MPE1, along with all the skins. Then any minor fixes could be updated quickly.

There is a conflict as you have said between WinTV ad MP TV. MP TV takes over the Hauppauge HVR-1265 card. I may be even getting more channels with it. The Titan TV worked great until last year. Now it will not run the scheduler. WinTV scheduler will let me program manually but I have to set a program for each day. If I try to set...

The reason I was thinking I needed more RAM is that TV now seems to be HiDef and so the files have grown. I edit the files before storing them, to reduce some size. It is finding that slower, I think. Or it could just be because I'm expecting more? The Baseboard manufacturer says ASUSTech Computer Inc; Baseboard product P7P55D-E...
