is this also applyable on a windows 8 machine ?

on second thought, had some coffee now, and you probably mean windows8 server :p

downloading developer preview now, and having a go .. let you know after this weekend :D

    it works... :D

(i did disable the metro interface again , i hate it :D )

    change key in folder:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

    named:
    RPEnabled
to 0 (metro off) (default =1 for on)

thnx bro for trying out :)
the metro interface is kinda sucky indeed but the speed of win 8 rulez more then ever :)
metro can be used with mouse / keyboard as well. once u find out how, it isnt that irritating as on 1st look.
now all there is left is this windows 8 develop preview x64 that dont run mediaportal cause of its OS checks.
as u say and i agree the windows 8 is running all win 7 apps so why not mediaportal.
i find out it works if i put tv on my tv-server and watch a channel there (in mediaportal)and on windows 8 dev machine i turn on VLC mediaplayer and connect to the stream e.a. rtsp://ip-of-tvserver/stream4.0 or 4.1 depending which tv-card it uses.
then if u swap channel on the tv-server it will automaticly swap on the remote vlc :)
for now this has to do i guess. only thing crashin vlc is discovery hd showcase as there codec use is a bit strange. ac3+h264.

it actually works on windows8 server, you need to:
modify the mediaportal msi installer to allow the unknown version (6.2.8201 = win8server dev preview) to install or modify the registry on windows8 to that the installers "thinks" its windows7 or windows2008r2... :D

or we ask the developers kindly to allow 6.2.xxxx also in the installer :D

i rather have this OS check gone ..
modifying the OS in registry results in unexpected behaviour.
1.1.3 mediaportal installs fine and works but as soon as i update it comes with this annoying OS check.

well i can understand the OS check , but it shouldnt prevent install .. and that is what MP does now..

but i gave you 2 options.. , you could also alter the install package.. (thats what I did)..
    no unexpected behaviour :D

we should PM Chemelli ... he's the one handling the installer for MP...
We might ask him kindly and see where we end up .. ?

Any windows 7 MCE remote support? I bought Rosewill RRC-126 and it did not work on windows 2008. There is no driver. Any way we could copy drivers from Windows7?

Probably win 7 64 bit drivers will work.
