AW: How to install Mediaportal on Windows 2008 R2 (x64 only)

Can anyone confirm, that after the installation of Hyper-V on the server 2008 r2 it comes to framedrops and stuttering?
I've checked this only on AMD machines, maybe it is only an AMD Problem.

If anyone trys it, after deleting the virtual Network and shuting down all virtual machines Sstuttering and framedrops should be gone.

did you try the second option for installing BDA ?

if so , this might help also...

you need to choose firewire driver as legacy driver..not from a chipset manufacturer.
(device manager, 1394 , properties, update driver , choose on my computer already, and then choose the legacy driver).

Hi SFD - I've just (finally) gotten TV Server running on Server 2008 R2 and I've run up a VM (client VM is Win 7 32 bit) and I don't seem to have any stutter or frame drops etc). To clarrify though - my MediaPortal Client is a seperate physical devices.

For anyone trying to get IR Blasting working on Server 2008R2 - I strongly suggest you toss your Microsoft MCE blaster out and buy USB-UIRT :) worked out of the box.

Oh... here's another interesting one that cost me many hours... my kworld DVB-T card seemed to have better reception under Win7 than it did under Server2008R2 - I believe it was driver related because I couldn't get the same version in 64bit - but that took me HOURS and HOURS because not only did I have to get the drivers from a Win7 64 bit build but then the card wouldn't tune and it took me days to finally decide on buying a new DVB-T card (ended up with Hauppauge 2200) - which did the trick.

But at the moment it seems like I've got Server 2008 R2 up and running and I don't think I'll be restoring back to Win 7 tonight =)

SFD - just remembered - 1 of the million problems I had was seriously crappy network performance when I installed hyper-v - I found this which fixed it instantly (even thought I had another make of devices): Network Issues with Windows Server 2008 RDP and VS/Hyper-V on Dell Servers

I've made the BDA patch and my FireDTVs are working perfectly in DVBViewer but MP RC5 wont find them, is it then safe to assume that the BDA is working or are there any reasons to suspect that MP want's to have some kind of special BDA handling? Previously when I have used XP, Vista, Win 7 etc. I have never seen anything indicating that a BDA device would work in one but not the others.

Also, I've noticed that sometimes when installing the MP RC5 (the only version I have tried to install on the W2008 R2 box) I don't seem to get a TV Server at all, ie nothing under "TV Server", anyone else noticed this? Havin't really done any error searching here so it might be something that is easy to fix...

Have tried everything now but MP RC 5 doesn't find the FireDTVs, in fact, it doesnt even manage to install the TV Server properly. Since DVBViewer works flawlessly out of the box, I'm kind of thinking about giving up on MP for the time being...

Edit: In all fairness, MP never claims to work on Windows Server 2008. To be hones, the constant pop-ups telling you this is enough to make me consider options even if it had :D

I actually managed to get MP to work now, after I installed the MSI mentioned before in this thread AFTER having installed option 2. I did some other changes at the same time so I really cant say that I know what solved the problem, will probably do a complete reinstall and try to reproduce it, as I know have DLLs all over the place. Will get back if I find out what's the key to solving this.

Having investigated this further, it seems like the only way I can get this to work is to install BOTH solutions (first option 2, then option 1, but order is probably not important). If I only install the MSI, then most mediacenters besides MP will find the hardware and work, but MP wont. Please note that you have installed the drivers (in my case the FireDTV ones) before both options have been installed, you have to reinstall them or it wont work.

AW: How to install Mediaportal on Windows 2008 R2 (x64 only)

    Hello Forum,
    I installed MediaPortal on Windows Server 2008R2 x64 several month ago using limpwhizkid's manual. I started - I guess - with 1.1.0 RC1.
Whenever a new release candidate was launched, I run an update installation on the server as well as on the clients - every time without any problems.

But this time, after I tried to upgrate to RC6, TVserver is not running anymore on the 2008R2 Server.

When I try to run 'SetupTV.EXE', I get the standard warning message, that my platform is not supportet and after that, I get a Windows error messagy saying that SetupTV is no longer working.
    The problem details are:

    Description:
    Stopped working

    Problem signature:
    Problemereignisname: CLR20r3
    Problemsignatur 01: setuptv.exe
    Problemsignatur 02: 1.0.10.18381
    Problemsignatur 03: 4c2c5c0b
    Problemsignatur 04: SetupTv
    Problemsignatur 05: 1.0.10.18381
    Problemsignatur 06: 4c2c5c0b
    Problemsignatur 07: 433
    Problemsignatur 08: 2fc
    Problemsignatur 09: System.IO.FileLoadException
    Betriebsystemversion: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.272.7
    Gebietsschema-ID: 1031

In the application event log, I found a message regarding TVServer saying:
"The service could not be started, The service process could not connect the service controller (my translation - the server is in German!).

Before I run a new installation from scratch :-(
Does anybody has an idea how to fix this without running a fresh installation?

    @ SFD

If you want to use Win 2k8 with Hyper-V and DXVA you need a processor which support SLAT (Second Level Address Translation).

AMD calls this feature RVI or NPT and every AM3 Sockel Processor has this feature.
On the Intel side its called EPT or HAP and it is part of Inet VT-x 2. I know that only Newhalem, i7 and some of the i5 cpus this feature support. Also you need a compatible chipset for this.

For example, I use a Phenom x4 910e CPU and as the chipset the 785G. It works like a charm with DXVA, Mediaportal 1.1 rc2 and SAF 4.

BTW is it save to upgrade to Mediaportal 1.1 Final?

I did everything in the guide, tried both options, but I can't get it to work. I keep getting this error "UnableToStartGraph" whenever I try to preview a (non-scrambled) channel. It searched for channels perfectly and found a whole bunch of them, but I can't watch any of them.

    Here's the tv.log:
www private pastebin - collaborative debugging tool
You can see a couple of timeouts of about 10 seconds everytime. It's probably waiting for something, but what??
And usually when a graph cannot be created, it means some codecs aren't installed... but they are.

    I'm trying a Terratec C PCI HD (w/o CI)
    Also I'm using Win2008 non-R2 english x64, fully updated.
