ok after reading more about eventghost I think i understand it more, it disables HID devices, as I understand it that means that other programs get "ignored" if not setup correctly in eventghost.

To fix it, I need to re-do the plugin tommorrow. so should be ready for saturday.

Thanks for the kind welcome guys!

I managed to get around a small problem with a reboot. When I started MP from the green button it was not getting focus and I had to mouse click once, then I could navigate. This was fixed with a reboot. Weird.

The other problem, with Ghost and Vista security, I have not completely solved. I decided to try to get it working with UAC enabled (for now). I have told Vista to run this program at startup as Admin. It attempts, but Windows Defender complains at startup, there is an option at that point to allow it to run, but nothing obvious to allow it every time. Luckily, I boot/reboot this machine rarely, so the solution will wait for another day.

With that running, MPC works great with the MCE remote, but we find ourselves using MPC less and less and MP instead. I haven't yet felt a compelling need to run MPC from MP, but I suspect the day will come. Hopefully, I'll have more time on that day.

One Ghost question, how do you figure out the names for the keys on the remote? When you want to add one to the config, it expects you to type a name. Is there a list of key names for the MCE remote somewhere?

    shindigo,

At least u have the option now of running MP, MPC, kmplayer or whatever else.

there must be a way of adding evebtghost into windows defender, I'll take a look over the weekend, but i can't promise much as I have never even opened win defender lol.

As for MP npt focusing, we had to enable "always on top" more is explained on the pg 1 guide.

ill get v3 done for saturday at the latest.

Here's one to mull over - seems that EventGhost has taken all control of my TV's remote. I attempted to make some alterations to the TV set-up (Pioneer 5090), using the TV remote and nothing happens. I used to be able to enter the set-up menus from any viewing screen (PC and/or SKY etc), however now I get nothing - no response.

I initially tried it while watching a SKY channel and thought the batteries had given-up - replaced with new - same situation, remote is not responfing to any commands independently.

Switched to PC screen and attempted to enter TV set-up, this time I noticed that the EventGhost system tray icon, kept flashing on the key press from the TV remote. I opened up EventGhost and with different key presses of the TV remote, noticed the log entry as "MceRemote AA5B".

Just out of curiosity do you know how to re-activate the HID service on the MCE remote - should I, or anyone else for that matter decide to abandon MP/EventGhost in favour of other MCE services/plug-ins that do not require EventGhost, in other words how can we reset the MCE remote to default settings.

    Any ideas

    Hi nmt1978

After you extracted the relevant files to the Media Portal folder - did you remember and activate the plug-in - 'double-click' the mptray_install.bat file - I missed this the first time around.

EventGhost • View topic - Uninstalled eventghost now mce remote doesnt work at all

I dont have any problems with any of my sky, TV, receiver remotes. I can't really help much there. Probably one for the eventghost forums.

Thanks for the link - figured it might have something to do with unchecking the HID box in EventGhost and tried it before you posted your reply and it worked.

Decided to abandon MP, just too many tweaks and too much tinkering required to make it a viable option as a playback medium. Too many variables and with a wife and family to please I'm afraid I've bowed to pressure and am reverting back to VMC. While they like and prefer the eye-candy of MP, they don't like the instability - too many variables I'm afraid. I actually got to the stage where I couldn't change from one viewing activity to another (using our Harmony One) - initailly blamed everything else (HDMI connection, ATI Drivers, Realtek HDMI drivers, dodgy connection from Onkyo amp). Through trial and error it would appear that there was some form of conflict between EventGhost and the IR transmissions to all my equipment as everything has worked flawlessly since I removed it from the system. I'm afraid when it got to that stage anarchy reigned and ultimately prevailed.

Hope you continue to develope this as a guide for those less able - it really helped me immensely in the early stages of MP configuration, unfortunately MP just wasn't for us. Might bump into you on the AV forums, noticed your name cropped up on a few threads I was reading over there.

yeh im thinking the same, I like to fiddle with my computer hehe and am looking at XBMC and see if that is more stable, it certainly has better skins currently. I'm waiting for a couple of skins to come out of beta for MP & im gonna wait for MP1.0.1, having said that MP has grown so much in last 2 years, its nearly good enough to replace VMC but not just yet :p

I'll see ya on avforums!!! Maybe XBMC wink wink :p
