A little off the current topic, but still on HD-PVR. Have any of you with HD-PVR units tried MCE Buddy on any of your recordings? I've tried h264 and DiVX encodes and mencoder keeps on crashing on me. I've also tried an update to mencoder and a mencoder script from the command line, and I get almost the same results every time. If you're not using MCEBuddy, are any of you transcoding, and what with? the h264 .ts streams seem to be a real pain to convert w/ just about anything at the moment. Thanks for any suggestions.

    Now I'm really confused.

I tested Manual Timeshift/record in the TVServer settings - it works, I capture a file of the channel I am watching which I can later view in a different media player like Arcsoft.

However every time I try to view live tv in MP (stock, SVN install from first post) I get "Timeshifting not available, no free device" or "Lost connection to TV Server". Clearly the MP client is having trouble connecting to the TV server itself.

I noticed that by default it picked my machine name (single seat install) but in order to get it to connect at all I had to specify the actual machine name - otherwise it wouldn't connect, tried connecting to ::1 which is the ipv6 version of the loopback address - even though I am not using IPv6.

Any ideas, pointers, etc at all? I feel like I'm so close yet so far.

Are you doing a single seat or multiseat setup? If single seat, follow this guide.

I have been having the same issues but using VirtualDubMod and Megui.
I tried everything I could think of. My recordings were done using RCTVCap and my TS files were cut using H264_Cutter and TSPE and both the same results.
The TS seems fine, but when I do the encoding x264 crash all the time and always at the same spot.
I tried xvid and same result. Having little experience with encoding I finally gave up for the moment.

Sorry I don't have a fix for you, but it's kind of reassuring to know I'm not alone.

I've tried 5 different converting programs, all with the same result. I'm currently trying the Arcsoft Media Converter, and so far, it looks like it may actually work. It's at 7% currently, and I have to go to work, but all other converters only made it to 4% or so. I tried TS-Doctor on one of my streams last night and it came up with 3300+ warnings about invalid pointers in the TS file. I'm starting to wonder if this is the reason it fails, or maybe it's something else. You'd think a "dirty" stream would be an issue for transcoding. I did try changing my quality settings to variable average bitrate instead of variable peak.....we'll see if that makes any difference on the next recording. I'll keep ya all updated on what happens.

    MisterD,
Unfortunately this one does not work corrctly. I copied the new file and here are the results.

    1. TV Server started okay, but there are two new tuners called 'analog' and the two previous tuners are marked as 'unknown'.
    2. I checked the new analog tuners and unchecked the unknown tuners.
    3. I mapped the channels to the new analog tuners.
    4. Manual Control in the TV Server config was able to start timeshiting, took it around 12 seconds to start.
    5. Opened the client and went to the guide, selected a channel but timeshifting did not start. Tried twice with no sucess.

    Here are the logs....:D

I made some changes to the timeshifting methods, which should avoid the 10 seconds delay during startup. The problem was that the graph wasn't running when TvServer tried to get the PMT for the first time.
You can find attached the new version for last public SVN. If it is working or not logs are really needed, as I changed a lot in those methods.

    MisterD

edit: Testversion removed. New version can be found later in this thread

On the same note, has anyone gotten comskip to work with their .ts files or do you have to donate to get the h264 version for it to work? I just donated yesterday just in case, but I was wondering if I even needed to.

    MisterD,
I will try the new version tonight. I have found a way around my schedulesdirect issue with MP 1.0.1, so if this works I will leave it instead of rolling back to Garry's version.

Thanks again MisterD, and again big thanks to Garry for getting this going!

    Hey Chesh,
Yes, the comskip works great with the 'donated' version. I have been running it since 80.05, and it works very well. Keep in mind that comskip only works on the single seat machine, it will not work on client machines.

    Everything else working okay?
    Wile E.

    Hey Wile.E,

Do you mind sharing how you got schedulesdirect working with 1.01/latest svns?

    Thanks!

    Hey ixian,
I dont have much time as im getting ready to leave work, but now Im using the XMLTV plugin of the TV Server. I downloaded the mc2xml program mc2xml to be able to create the tvguide.xml file. You can do a search in the forums on mc2xml and find most of the information you need. If you need detailed instructions I can pass those along later on tonight...

    Wile E.

EDIT: https://www.team-mediaportal.com/manual/TV-Server/Configuration/Plugins/XmlTv Here is the link for setting up XMLTV in MP. Also, I used the channel mappings I already had with Schedules Direct to map the tvguide.xml file to....

Ah, so you are using mc2xml to actually get the data from your SD account, and then the XMLTv plugin to import this data so that MP will use it in it's EPG, am I reading that right? Sounds a little cludgy but if it works I can't complain right? :)

I'd appreciate any further advice you can give or pitfalls you ran in to later tonight if you have time. I'm going to give it a whirl later myself - apparently the newer SVN's may fix the TVClient connection issues I am having so I want to be able to give those a try.

    Exactly!

I agree about the cludge, but the Directv channel changing and Comskip are set up very simlar and they run fine. I will give it a whirl to see how it works (over time) :)
