I still think it's not (only) the iptv part thats the problem here. The TV Server is designed to worlk with DVB streams only, but from my experience with iptv it also works with video streams that are not dvb compatible. Of course this it not official supported and may change.

Back to tpg: I had a look at the video Ausdigital uploaded. There's something wrong with the movie, because:

• The video part doesn't play the file. The movie part of MP doesn't care if the movie is a dvb stream or not. It just plays (almost) all files.
• GSpot showed me that none of the codecs on both of my systems plays the movie (ffdshow, PDVD 10, CoreAVC, MS DTV are installed!).
• WMP 11 on Win7 plays the file, although none of the installed codecs plays it (referring to GSpot)
• Did you have a look at the media info in vlc? In vlc the video has a resolution of 544x576 @180000fps. Yes 180000 fps! WTF! I've never heard of a resolution 544x576. What is it? 8,5:9?

Unfortunately MP doesn't play it. Perhaps there is a codec out there that plays the file in MP.
You said there are some people who got tpg to work? Did one of them mention somewhere what codec he used?

You first need to get the movie running in the video part of MP before thinking of iptv.

Edit: I tested some more things. If I rename the file to .avi it plays in almost all players and GSpot shows the correct codecs to play the file. But the resolution and fps is still weired...

While it has a .ts extension it will be treated as if it is a timeshift buffer or recording. Like Ausdigital said earlier, it plays if you rename it to .mp4 (although the audio doesn't play for me).

It uses variable frame rate (according to MediaInfo), which is probably why VLC doesn't pick up the frame rate correctly. 544x576 is correct. I think it is 720x576 except they have "decimated" 3/4 of the horizontal resolution to save bits. Not very standards compliant though...

Like I said, give it a different extension and it will play. TsReader can't handle it though right now.

I am now able to start VLC within Mediaportal and use MCE remote to change channels etc. Better than keyboard only.

But I still cannot find a way to close VLC after I pressed STOP. Tried several ways found here but didn't work.

Following the suggestion by those helping in this post I have moved away from trying to get IPTV working and setup Online Videos.

I have now configured the plugin for TPG IPTV and have it working. However, the default appears to be Windows Media Player which cannot stream this video. It has to be VLC.

Instead of right clicking and selecting "Play with.." each time, is there a way to set VLC as the DEFAULT player?

Hey Ausdigital

The TPG sample you uploaded has been sitting on my desktop mocking me for a couple of months bitch. I'm the sort of person that doesn't really like failing with a challenge like this, and I just couldn't bring myself to delete the sample without having one last crack at getting it to play!
The biggest hurdle for me has been that I knew very little about TsReader and h.264, but I dove in head first a couple of days ago and after some hours of staring at code that made my head hurt I managed to figure out what was wrong and got the sample to play.
Thing is: it doesn't play smoothly for me no matter what I do. I'm wondering if that is because the sample is bad (it does seem to have a few errors/discontinuities). Is there any chance of you uploading another slightly larger sample (max 50 MB)? Further, would you be willing to try my patch and see if it allows the streams to play for you? Note that if you want to test the patch then I'd need to know what version of MP you're using.

PS: I know you've moved on to OnlineVideos, so no pressure to spend any time on this... but it would help my sanity.

Give me a couple of days to image my drive and return to a system with the IPTV modifications on the tvserver file and I shall capture some footage for you.

I am happy to try any method you can employ as I am sure there would be other australian tpg users out there (on whirlpool forum) that would also be interested.

I think 544x576 is actually a part of various DVB standards. It's used by various satellite providers who need to skimp on the bitrate. It was used by the (admitedly NDS encrypted) Sky TV here in NZ and according to a search in the UK too. A search suggests some FTA DVB-S also use it and also DVB-T.
