The MCe remote is supported by Media Portal natively, so most probably, you won't have any problems.
The blaster part (to control other devices like set-top boxes) is also supported, but that takes some more work.

Also, if you get the choice, go for the European 2005 version. It has the fou extra colour teletext buttons down the bottom and these are used as shortcut keys to make MP a LOT easier to use.

If you have XP PRO SP2 or MCE, it should work straight out of the "box". If you have XP Home, you'll need to play withsome extra files, but it's not too hard.

Where's a good place to buy this remote? I've looked all over the interweb but usually they don't specify what model they are... Should I get one of the ones listed on Newegg or from somewhere else? See link...

I see what you mean now. Too bad that site doesn't ship internationally :-(. I'll keep looking and post any findings I get here for others.

I bought the european version of the MS media center remote. the problem is i cant get it to work. It works on my gaming machine with service pack 2 installed, but i cant install SP2 on my media machine. You said it was possible to get this to work with a XP pro version without service pack 2. How can i do this? thanks

Thank you for this tip! I'm moving MP TV Server to a new machine. I installed the 64-bit version and most of the MP firewall rules were set to Public. I couldn't connect to the new TV Server from my old single-seat installation running 32-bit until I changed all MP-related firewall rules on the new machine to Private. Before I did...

I don't know about MP2 but as you said you tried MP1 too, how is the MP music config ? MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback. If you you don't have multichannel music you can choose WASAPI as the output and set the number of speakers to stereo. I have...
