Ok so I'm new to all this so bear with me, when I installed mp1 on one of my computers (win 8.1) I thought it gave the option to install client and server, or client only, I cant remember for sure, so I installed client and server I think, got tv service up and running, so I have another computer I want to use as client only. This one has win 10, it seems mp1 needs net framework 3 services pack 1 witch would not install, so I installed mp2 and chose client only, will this work. I did click your link and I'm still confused.

    It does.

    Okay.

The installer requires .NET 3.5. My understanding is that's not something you install on W10 (or W8). You enable support as a Windows feature. Refer to the answer here for instructions on how to do that:

so I installed mp2 and chose client only, will this work
It could work if you were to install MPExtended. However, it sounds like that is more complication than you want or need. The simplest solution would be to enable .NET 3.5 support as per the link above, then proceed with your previous plan of installing MP1 client-only.

Well then it's your choice as to what you do. I still think the simplest option would be to install MP1 as client-only.

I don't know about MP2 but as you said you tried MP1 too, how is the MP music config ? MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback. If you you don't have multichannel music you can choose WASAPI as the output and set the number of speakers to stereo. I have...

The only configuration that is certain to work is when the MP client and MP server are from the same release. It is sometimes possible to use MP clients from a release that is different to the MP server, but whether it works depends on the specific changes that were made between the two releases. -- from CyberSimian in the UK
