Hi,

Does anyone know whether a Client only installation of Mediaportal can be run from anything other than windows?

E.g. Can it run under WINE on Linux?

Thanks

    Hi elsmandino

I think it is unlikely, however I'd be interested to know the result myself.

    Hi,

I did read somewhere that Mediaportal Server won't run from anything but Windows but it did not say anything about running it as a Client only.

The reason I ask is that I have a pretty old computer with a Windows ME OEM Code. It is not worth buying any new Windows Software for it but would be good if I could get MP running on it under something like Ubuntu.

As you say, I do have a suspicion that it won't work, but hopefully someone on here as had a go.

Yeah, TV Server is a definite no go. We use Windows APIs such as DirectShow and BDA for hardware support. Wine would have to be pretty good to provide support for BDA...

The server uses BDA and DirectShow, the client extensivly uses DirectX which is not available on WINE. So the answer is: No (and is asked again & again & again in the forums, I guess we should have a sticky about this ;) )

Thanks for confirming that - Windows all the way then.

Bit of a shame - would have been good to stick a front end on a light-weight distro.

TV Server streams are standard RTSP streams which can be received by software like VLC. IMO the only thing missing is something that can control the TV Server.

Thanks to our super moderators, I just quickly posted that without really looking - I could not remember the sticky.

Fixed, I think. Certainly the vintage MP2 installer that I was using no longer installs the LAV filters. I can only assume that these were never part of the install package itself, but rather downloaded during the install, and that link no longer exists. Shame that the installer doesn't indicate this. Last time when I installed the...

Greetings to all Denizens of the land of MediaPortal... It seems our Zap2XML/GraceNote access is broken again.
