I think a normal home looking like that is better than a basic home - as with the normal home you can add whatever you like!

+1 on thinking this is a good idea. Better have a great looking and bug free, fully working skin when released, that a bug-full alpha version where only MyTV and Weather works.
But I'm all for posting some teaser pics once in awhile

A suggestion - and maybe this is done already - but for items such as DVD covers/Thumbnails etc - if one does not exist, could you replace it with a nice "No Cover" image? As opposed to just leaving an empty space?

I think 1.38 is easier, it's a minor addition, judging by the lack of bugs, 1.39 is still a long way off.
Ideally, the TuningParameters settings would be moved to MPE1, along with all the skins. Then any minor fixes could be updated quickly.
