When high res posters are imported a smaller version is made as well. The resolution configuration for this can be adjusted in the advanced options. But you would have to redo the existing 'thumbnail' versions then on the covers already imported. You should be able to adjust settings, delete the thumbnails and they will be recreated (if all goes well).
