but nobody seemed to pick up on that.
Yeah, I never understood why XBMC devs ignore the TV part completelly.
Their "recent" approach to connect to linux based tv-engines is far from useable.

My bet is on that the majority of XBMC users gain access to the latest TV series in a different form than real TV :D Just a guess, no hard facts around.
Sure, who else does not. :D

But how about everything else? (well, except movies which you can get through other ways as well ;) )

Anyway. We offer that. Just not for Linux. ;)

I bet MP users are old farts who like to watch local and world news and the XBMC user base is a bit younger who want just entertainment. Would be nice to see some demographics about the user bases of these two applications.

I doubt that they are younger than 4 and 6 years. Which is the age of my kids. :D
They would "kill" me if they don't get their daily dose of KidTV. ;)

I think that 80% of all recordings I do is for them. Shows which you won't find on any download portal (at least not in german language).
Maybe majority of XBMC users speak english?

There are plenty of programmes, particularly those on regularly like The Daily Show, that would be a pain to download but a piece of cake to record. And then there's sport and news etc.

It's not a Media Center if it doesn't do TV IMO, the whole point is complete integration from 1 remote.

I agree completely a Media Center without TV-function is nothing more then an advanced popcorn hour.

That said, the only thing I use the TV-part for is sport and live-shows, anything else I get from "alternative sources" ;-)

I also wonder whether a lot of XBMC users are in America where everything is cable and it's more difficult to get TV working without a cable box?

    MediaPortal certainly seems very European.

Re: AW: MP TV server - linux client

Just search for "MediaPortal" in the xbmc forums.
But don't expect too much, that "plugin" does not work well at all.
Current release (1 month old) has broken LiveTV.
Yeah I know. The rtsp support in used ffmpeg library in XBMC is far from perfect. I'm currently working on a port of the TSReader code to my XBMC PVR addon, but I'm quite busy, so that will take a while ;)

It also requires some exe to be run serverside.

I have no clue why none "just" writes a plugin to directly "talk" to the TvServer. All the current approaches are totally flawed in design.

Well, that exe is just a standalone debug version of a real TVServer plugin. The only reason for that exe is that the current code does not use the TVServer log features, which make it very hard to find causes of problems when XBMC cannot connect to the TVServer. It is still based on the original XBMC work found in the mp-plugins repository and indeed it needs a redesign.

    Hi margro!

I guess you are the creator if the plugin talked about here?
If so, keep up the work! Looking forward to new versions. :)

Thanks guys. Ok, spent the (whole) weekend on this lol. First; TVHeadend/Kodi.... Nah. Given up on that - 'non-tech'; its horrible. 'Tech' - a few reasons but mostly that it is buggy. It is actually a real shame as it does have potential and promises a lot (was great to have Kodi on my phone and be able to watch live/recordings...

Good evening, the last weeks my MP2.5 Server with TVE3 is running not very good/stable. After 30 min the server quits working after changing EPG from EPG Buddie to Clickfinder (TV Movie). After many hours of troubleshooting I've given up and accepted that it's just "one of these things" when using madVR for watching live TV. I've now ticked the box to "Use EVR for LiveTV", with a default display refresh rate of 50Hz. In combination with tweaking some of the Nvidia 3D settings for the MP executable only, I now have a...
