As above, it's always a good idea to look at how it's used (or could be used), to influence how it could look 'nice'. So far for suggestions we have...

    - Search functionality (I'd imagine like iTunes which narrows down results as you type) that lets you find upcoming TV programs, music, movies, and so forth when you're in that section

    - Renaming or modifying details of movies, music and so forth

    - Predictive text where the word is suggested as you type (like on some mobile phones, but it would just suggest items in the current section instead of a whole dictionary - for example if you typed M O N it wouldn't suggest 'Monkey' unless you had something named that in your library). Managing a long list of suggested words could be a bit of an issue though.

It's sounding like a MP wide search or filter function, whether it's for Music in your library or online videos in the Online Video plugin. This could also bring Search in to the TV Guide, instead of having its own section.

What else apart from search or modifying item details do we need to input?

There may be a better way to lay out the keyboard too, at the moment it resembles a QWERTY board except in ABC order, a little confusing at first glance. There's likely a more remote friendly layout that requires less button presses.

    Hi,

I'm confused, doesn't the current on screen keyboard allow SMS style input?

I think Bram means something like T9. You know typing "epi" and the keyboard fills this to "episode" as prediction. Like in OpenOffice or so.

Much time back I remember a discussion in the Meedio forums for a new onScreen keyboard layout. There where quite some interesting ideas. Also for fast navigation, for remote users. Perhaps I will find it again....

Wow, many answers to this topic, thanks guys! All right, let's go to make thing a bit more specific:

    - The keyboard aspect should be just like the actual one but more 'polished' graphically. Centered on the screen, a semitransparent background and skinnable also. Right now it appears like an ugly, unfinished thing...

    - Two models, one for gamepad and arrows users with a QWERTY aspect and other for remotes users, with just 0 to 9 keys just like mobile phones.

    - It could be useful searching movies, using MSN Messenger plugin (if it's finished soon), using wikipedia plugin, etc.

    - It could be VERY interesting to use predictive writing

    Regards,

Thanks for explaining. I found a passing reference to this here: https://www.team-mediaportal.com/wiki/display/MediaPortal1/HID%20Profiles which I had overlooked in the past. I would find it logical for a created custom profile to be automatically activated, but until that happens, I will try to create a wiki page for the current...
