PC remote interacting with mediaportal in the background issue (1 Viewer)

there is option to keep mediaportal always on top, (under MP Config->general settings if i remember correctly) this will ensure MP is always the active application.
program a button usually the MCE button to start MP/bring to foreground. problem solved.

I always have DVB subtitles enabled in "MP Config", but I actually switch on subtitles only for those films that have deafening sound effects and music, combined with inaudible dialogue. I have never noticed the problem that you have described, but I also use the EVR renderer, and not the Madvr renderer. So...

Every so often, when I switch to a TV channel, my MP client stops accepting user inputs, either from the remote or keyboard/mouse...

That seems to have done the trick.
Thank you so much for your help and advice, CyberSimian. I hadn't thought of deleting the various folders, but I'll bear that in mind for any future disasters. Now I can record King & Conqueror on Sunday!
