FYI - I never actually resolved this. I ended up converting all the .BIN files to .AVI using VCD Gear. it took me about 2 hours of minimal interaction with my media centre so it may be the best way to get these to work.

MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback. @CyberSimian Sorry, I missed your last post. I ended up doing a clean install on the client and all is well now. It still doesn't let me go back in time when I change channels but it does continue operating from that point on. I'm ok with that. Thanks for your help!
