You can always directly use the database to add/delete the records in the various tables. Though I dont know how would MP tune to the channel if there are no tv cards defined in the first place. You might also want to take a look at the iptv plugins to see how they are using the EPG.
@CyberSimian Sorry, I missed your last post. I ended up doing a clean install on the client and all is well now. It still doesn't let me go back in time when I change channels but it does continue operating from that point on. I'm ok with that. Thanks for your help!

When I first start watching a TV program the timeshift functions works perfectly. I can shift back and forth in time and it works...

The electronic program guides (tvguide.xml) have been successfully transferred to MediaPortal.
