I am interested in the Logitech Harmony range, that seem to be quite common. logitech - harmony have you had a look at these?

I am some weeks off getting on to my real research on remotes, but these ones will figure quite highly on the list of 'possibles' I think.

I'll be checking back to see what others think - hopefully there will be some feedback from people with more experience of this. One thing I have seen is that there is a fair amount of feedback needed for the MP developers of various IR plugins, so please keep this in mind when you do get some experience yourself. :)

I have a LOGI Harmony 785 and I'm very satisfied with it. It brings all settings for MP with it, but still allows for personal change.

But the harmony system to program the remote is awful to put it mildly. I want more control over my remote not less. Isn't there something better that does the same but with better software (on the remote or with pc)

I considered the harmony 1000 but that's getting bad reviews everywhere.
Now I'm looking at the 895. RF isn't an absolute must but it would be nice. But I'm reading everywhere that the RF part hardly works or only for some.

    What about the philips remotes?

I'm willing to pay more than in the topic. And I don't mind spending some time to make it work.

Well, ... if you once got the idea behind it, it okay. For sure its nothing for technical skilled persons who think straight.

    i'm a harmony fan - i've an 885
the software has improved - it was difficult to use, but the interface was refreshed in passed 6 months
    i like the refresh
also, given ir learning, it is possible to get the remote to do everything you want
having spent time with setting up my macros, i'm very happy

I've ordered 2 :p So it has two chances the 895 ... two different setups.

    Any tips?

btw what device do you set for mediaportal? I think I used Company: Microsoft Device: MCE 2005 orsomething

thanks for your replies. I'm still curious if there are better alternatives out there. I read something about URC MX (universal remote control) They receive much love from the remote control community :p. But they are hard to find in europe. Universal Remote Control

    ditto on setup, mce remote
tips: well, for me, important to learn certain ir codes (like input on audio receiver) and add them to macros as additional forced ir, in case the macro doesn't catch the sequence of ir blinks
    perseverence
having the harmony software on a laptop near the tv room
if i think of more, i'll come back to you!

Please post back on here with your experience of the Harmony 1000 - I will be interested to hear how it goes, as will others I suspect. It looks great, but mixed reviews as you say. On one of the AV forums, the main reviewer gave it a rave-review, only to then start finding the bugs with it - however, that's not to say it's not a good remote device.

    Good luck!

Ran into this problem following an otherwise sucessful upgrade from MP 1.34 x64 to MP 1.35 x64 the CEC Remote plugin which I use just to control volume and standby, will no longer put my devices (TV & AVR) to sleep when the HTPC is put in standby. Also when I wake up the HTPC MP closes or crashes (not sure which) as per the example in...

MP has adjustable audio delay. I don't know whether this works for all video formats, but it certainly works for TS files, and may work for MP4 files. There is a slider that allows you to adjust the audio delay while playing a video. Press the INFO button on the remote control to display the OSD, select the "Audio" icon, and then...

Most (all?) small PC cases accept only ITX motherboards, which have only one PCI-E slot. So you could install only one PCI-E tuner card.
