Hey Guys, if you are using the latest MediaPortal 1.1.0 SVN can you please try your tests using the attached Core.dll. Ensure you backup your existing one.

Hopefully will be much faster! Plus I need some extra testing.

Please dont raise any MediaPortal bugs if you are using this patched DLL, this is only for use when testing the slow menus.

Tried this out. I know you wanted to know about switching times across the board, but was only able to get Moving Pictures to work.

Moving Pictures did operate as if it was a normal PC. Switching times were responsive and backgrounds trailed icons by less than 2 seconds.

TV Series is giving me issues but I don't think it is DLL releated.

BTW that Core.DLL breaks the Media Portal Config program.

This was under Windows 7 Ultimate N. Zotac 330A Atom Nvidia Ion 4GB Ram Patriot SSD. Overclocked to 2.0Ghz

Very unlikely related to my change but more to do with a mismatch of versions between your installed version of MediaPortal and the revision of SVN the core.dll was compiled against. How recent is your version, the latest one 6th Nov? This is actually slightly newer but should have no problem with the last few svns (could be wrong).

    Hi Itfearme,

that seems to do the trick. I had no problem running config.
Running Windows XP on and ION330
    MediaPortal: 10424047
    StreamedMP: 0.9.601
    Slow Menu's: Yes
    Slow Context Menu's: No
    Slow Marked as Watched: No
    AVG Switch time: 7-8 seconds

    MediaPortal: 10424047 with new core.dll
    StreamedMP: 0.9.601
    Slow Menu's: No
    Slow Context Menu's: No
    Slow Marked as Watched: No
AVG Switch time: 2 seconds for MPTV, 1 second for movingpictures

note that accessing mypictures still takes about 7 seconds, mymusic's speed is around 2 to 3, which was much longer

    thanks for your help!

I will give this core.dll a try, sorry that I haven't been able to run more tests so far had a very busy week. Will test some more coming week.

Music/Pictures/Videos can sometimes take a while due to it loading files/folders into shares view. Try the DB view if you haven't already.

Oke update my first tests with CPU % and will continue to do some more test now. Found some new data, like back navigation is twice as slow as going into a plugin. Also noticed that there is idle CPU usage. So I also noted those findings.

    MediaPortal: 1.0.2
    StreamedMP: 0.8.448
    Codec Pack: SAF 4.00 beta19
    Slow Menu's: No (only back)
    Slow Context Menu's: No
    Slow Marked as Watched: No
AVG Switch time to Plugin: 3.5 seconds
AVG Switch time back to Main: 6 seconds
Instant CPU Usage on Switch: 25%
    Idle CPU Usage: 17%
Average CPU usage on 720p: 7%
Average CPU usage on 1080p: 9%
Average CPU usage on browsing (MyTVSeries, Videos, Moving Pictures, ...) : 18%
Anything else you found: There is 17% idle CPU usage.

    MediaPortal: 1.0.2
    StreamedMP: 0.9.601
    Slow Menu's: No (only back)
    Slow Context Menu's: No
    Slow Marked as Watched: No
AVG Switch time to Plugin: 3.5 seconds
AVG Switch time back to Main: 6 seconds
Instant CPU Usage on Switch: 25%
    Idle CPU Usage: 17%
Average CPU usage on 720p: 7%

Average CPU usage on browsing (MyTVSeries, Videos, Moving Pictures, ...) : 18%
Anything else you found: There is 17% idle CPU usage.

No difference with the new StreamedMP on v1.0.2!

On the idle CPU I found that when I shutdown MP it then drops to 0%, so it can't be anything in windows that causes idle CPU usage in MP.

    MediaPortal: SVN Snapshot 11-06-2009--19-18-Rev24047
    StreamedMP: 0.9.601

Slow menu's are present. I must say it is starting to look like it is MP's newest release that is causing the slow menu's. Only navigation back to the main menu however is just as slow on all versions. There is also not a anti idle loading bar to indicate movement. My girlfriend often thinks she didn't push the button good enough, but she did and then it does the command twice. So not just going into plugins, also going back needs to be improved. Gonna try the new core.dll to see if that works better.

MediaPortal: SVN Snapshot 11-06-2009--19-18-Rev24047 - with core.dll fix

Slow Menu's: No (only back, but faster)
    Slow Context Menu's: No
    Slow Marked as Watched: No
AVG Switch time to Plugin: 3 seconds
AVG Switch time back to Main: 5 seconds
Instant CPU Usage on Switch: 25%

Same CPU usages as all the others, only difference is loading times. With this fixed core.dll it seems that it works normal as it does in MP1.0.2 with StreamedMP v0.8.408. The only this that seems to be slow in all tests is going back to main menu. Anyone have any ideas?

All tests are done now, so let's put our minds together and see what is wrong. The fixed core.dll is the direction to go and shows that it seems to be MP related. Therefor I conclude that the problem is not in StreamedMP, but in MP.

    Off topic:
Malagem uses CoreAVC and I use SAF pack, there is a huge difference in CPU usages on HD playback.

I got my machine up and fixed finally. Domini0n, I have not noticed the slowing that you see going backwards. The upgraded core.dll seems to have fixed all of my problems. The only time I noticed slower speeds running backwards was when I had my video memory set to 256MB. I have now set it to 512MB and my errors that I was getting in the logs have vanished and moving backwards in menus is not an issue. I am running my 330 2.0GHz and that has lowered all of my CPU times and I am only 51C° with the single CPU fan.

On a side note. I am using the older 2005 MCE remote and for some reason my time skip has stopped working with this build. I can move up, down, left, right in menu mode. But when I go to skip 15, 30, 1min, 3min nothing happens. Happens in Moving Pictures and MP-TVSeries.

Turns out its an issue not sure if they are aware or are going to fix it.

The remote problem is an known issue and is fixed in the newer SVNs, there is also a separate fix you can download. Search the forum and you will find it ;).

I will try to overclock my CPU and see if that make the menu respond faster or not. All problems, except going back to main menu are gone. I hope I don't need to overclock my system as running it @ 51c will harm the unit in the long run. The warmer a machine is, the more likely it will fail some day sooner then on a lower temp. I will experiment to see what differences there are in temperature when standard clocked and overclocked.

I have my graphics card set to use 512Mb of memory. I knew that would give me the best performance as I had experienced trouble on my old HTPC when using 256Mb on a ATI HD3200.

Will play around a little more, to try and see what I can improve on this little machine and report what it takes to make it work better.

    Information request:
I would like to know from other ION330 users what OS they use and if they also have idle CPU usage when you are doing nothing in the main menu of MP. Also report if you use the RSS feeds or other moving plugins please.

menu is much faster with this core dll on win7 x64 and latest svn of mp
but ... when watching tv and choose Home on my remote the menu is blank ... without entries
is this a bug of your skin or with this core.dll?

the home function worked without problems in X-Factor Skin
