There are quite a few posts about this already, so in the future please use the search function. But yes, we do plan on implementing sorting and filtering/grouping, it will be in 0.8.

First off: there are some issues with the latest Mediaportal (32bits vs 64bits), so that is one of the issues you're stumbling with.
If you take the previous version (1.31) it should work as expected.

Ok, so perhaps a solution, but not the "right" solution. On the client, within media portal configuration, under TV settings, advanced options, I switched to UNC paths instead of the default RSS, and it's working very well. Sure I had to figure out the paths, but no big deal.
