    Hi catavolt

The reason this is being discussed is because I was wanting to keep my customizations in the event of the upcoming upgrade to 1.14.0. These customizations appear to reside in SkinSettings.xml.

Someone made a suggestion that I could create a Theme that would be preserved when I upgrade MediaPortal and this is what I was trying to do. However, it looks like I cannot use a theme when all it will contains is the amended SkinSettings.xml file.

Is there another way to keep my SkinSettings.xml settings when upgrading?

Yes. We could do that and that is what I am going to do for the moment.

I was just thinking that it would be a good idea for the install/upgrade process to preserve the SkinSettings.xml settings on upgrade. I imagine that there must be quite a lot of MP users that have customized their skins and would appreciate not losing their customizations every time there is an upgrade or interim skin fix from catavolt.

Just an idea, perhaps for a future release?

If the code for reading settings has been written well, I hope it would be able to check if the setting is present and select/save a sensible default if it is not [present].

In fact it works like this :
When a upgrade is started, NSIS installer backup SkinSettings.xml, copy all skin files and at final restore SkinSettings.xml.
It doesn't backup other xml files only SkinSettings.xml :)
