Hi,

I am on the search for a antivir program that works totaly invisible so that it don't bother MediaPortal while watching TV for example. (especially when it is updating)
Which one do you use?

if it's a real htpc (i.e. not a workstation) you should care nothing for virus at all. maybe just a tiny firewall against worms. nothing fancy. follow ronilse advice if you can.

Try AVG Free - exellent product, uses little ress.

Alt.: ClamWin (Open Source - No realtime, though) and Avast (also free)

If used soley as HTPC, do not bother.

If you use it for internet\documents and anything else that may come from external sources, i use avg free without scheduled scanning enabled, just run a scan when it suites you.

but they're cancelling support for the free edition on Feb 18th. Sh*t !!

    No, that's not correct.

AVG Free 7.1 version will be discontinued on 18th of Feb 2007.

But, GRISOFT is announcing a new version of the AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. This new 7.5 version with improved performance and full compatibility with the latest Windows Vista version is available .... :)

Already have AVG Free 7.5, was released weeks ago.

And it does tell you a new version available on the auto update, or anyway mine did.

My bad, I misunderstood your post then :) Yeah, these things can get complicated really quickly. I remember scrapping some of my skin-improvement-ideas because I couldn't get these cross-dependencies sorted out.

@CyberSimian Sorry, I missed your last post. I ended up doing a clean install on the client and all is well now. It still doesn't let me go back in time when I change channels but it does continue operating from that point on. I'm ok with that. Thanks for your help! EDIT: I now downgraded the server (as I did with the client above)...
