I don't see where in the config where you can pick which decoders to use. When I click on an episode, nothing happens right now. The same video plays fine from the Videos section of MP.
I saw a thread where playing mpg files are an issue because it's using the TSStreamBufferPlayer instead of the regular player that Videos uses. In that thread, it said to change a setting in the mediaportal.xml but the setting isn't there.
That has long gone, which version of TV-Series are you using, if you remove the plugin and install streamed MP skin, this will install a later version of TV-Series.
You also might want to see if you have any codec problems with filmerit.
It just shows if you have any codec problems, that may be screwing up windows choice of filters to insert into any graph created for watching video\audio, the padlock unlocks the repair function.
Well - I completely did a fresh install of Vista instead of XP. This time I did not install ffdshow or any other codecs except for PDVD Ultra.
Still not working - same behavior. Click on the episode, hear a click, nothing happens. All of the episodes were imported manually, not sure if that makes any difference but the mpg files are playable by VLC and WMP.

MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback.
If you you don't have multichannel music you can choose WASAPI as the output and set the number of speakers to stereo.

I don't think so, because MP has no way of knowing at which timestamp the external player stopped playback.
Best way to achieve this would be to use an auto-resume feature in your external player itself. (MPC-HC can do that, I don't know about VLC)

Preferable with as much disabled as possible
also try to see if anything is happening during stuck for the mediaportal process(resource monitor, disk activity, cpu usage, anything)
