I have installed Mediaportal. If I try to start it Windows restarts. Have you had similar problem? How can I solve it?

You first need to tell windows not to restart when errors occur. Go to control panel / system / advanced (XP, I think Vista and W7 are similar) and change your startup and recovery settings.

Once you've done that, replicate the error by starting MediaPortal and note down the exact specifics of the error message that pops up. Use Google to get an indication of what the error message means if you dont understand it.

Once you have that information, if you need further assistance, post it here, along with your system and OS specs. Mediaportal logs may also be useful.

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows XP and installed Mediaportal again. Now I am able to start Mediaportal Configurator. If I start mediaportal it stops at "Initializing directX". I tried to switch it off in task manager it started to initialize plugins but not started madiaportal.
Can it be the problem that I dont have WMP11 validated because I don´t have internet connection on my HTPC? There is some window opening when I´am starting Mediaportal, however I can not read it because I see it only for some mseconds. I want to use Media player classic as a player, is it possible to switch off the request for WMP in mediaportal?

The problem is that since you don't have an internet connection you 're probably missing necessary updates in windows. Given the restarts, a hardware problem may be present as well. You need to test hardware and if all is ok try to take your computer to a friend or something so that you can update windows fully. Again MP logs are absolutely obligatory when asking for support.

here is a small update: it is probably not due to the Windows update. I ran a new transmitter scan and got the same result. MP no longer starts. Then I got the fuse back and everything works again. A simple reinstall of MP does not bring a solution. Maybe I should reinstall MP from scratch. However, I need a lot of time for this...
