I filled in my system specs now. Sorry.
Ok, i have both versions of MP on the same XP-installation (1.0.0.0 and 1.0.0.2). I made a copy of the folders in "all users" and "programms" before upgrading. Now i just have to rename them to compare them. I have a Server/Client installation. Server Version stays at 1.0.0.2, because the Server version is not the problem.
When i switch to 1.0.0.0 all problems are gone. With exactly the same codec settings and everything. I test it on recordings and live TV. The difference on my 52" is clearly visible.
I dont now if 1080i channels are working, because i dont have any.

AFAIK flickering GUI problem was a vista+ati only problem and can be fixed using single processer afinity, i thought mediaportal was designed for XP hence i think the changes to rendering that introduce 1080i problems with integrated graphics reflect a poor direction in development.

From memory (when I ran a HD3450 in my system), using the 'single processer affinity' hack didn't fix all of the problem - just reduced it considerably, at the cost of halving the CPU performance in MP....so the problem had to fixed properly (and it took several attempts by the devs to fix the issue).

MP is designed to run on XP, Vista and (soon) Win7 - in the last survey 36% were using MP on Vista. Also Microsoft has now stopped shipping XP (other than for 'netbooks'), so you won't be able to buy it soon - hence the main thrust of development has to be for Vista and Win7.

As already stated in this thread (in a heated discussion - read the pages from https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/1-0-1-svn-builds-313/1080i-material-not-deinterlacing-under-1-0-1-0-a-58486/index8.html), the devs are not going to revert back to the earlier video rendering method - it was incorrect and was creating the 'flickering GUI' problem for some ATi users.

I noticed this discussion leads to nothing. I take it as it is. I surrender. That's too bad. I built in a HD 4550 low profile now and all works flawless. On the other hand more heat and power consumption.

ps: I've read a lot of Andrew H's post's on this thread and I think his post's need to be taken with a 'grain of salt'

    concurred :D

I'm a bit puzzled here. My system with Vista 32, ATI HD3200 seems to handle the NZ 1080i broadcast flawlessly. I was very impressed watching Ice Age, broadcast in 1080i with 5.1 sound...

The major departure on my system from what seems to be "mediaportal normal" is that I use the Cyberlink Powercinema 6 codec for playback. I found this codec to provide by far the best visuals.

So, I think HD3200 is capable enough with 1.0.2. Or am I just blind to the issues you guys are seeing? I confess that I do not have a 1080p panel, the 1080 frames are being down sized to my 720p resolution.

dale77 -> There are a few users that state that 1080i HDTV + 780G + MP1.0.2 + VISTA seems to be ok. Perhaps it's just an XP issue. It's hard because you have to seperate users who have always had bad 1080i performance vs' those who just have stutter post upgrade to 1.0.2. Perhaps your lower 720p resolution helps too. Also I personally found that fresh install MP1.0.2 seemed a lot crisper than upgrade from MP1.0Final.

Hopefully wont be a problem for me anymore as i intend to purchase a HD4670 for my HTPC. Also I havn't tried MP 1.0.2 since i overclocked my HT frequency up to 1375.

Yes I'm a little surprised that config works well. I always thought (from reading in here) that the 780G really needed a phenom for de-interlacing HD. Absolutely sure there are no frame drops?

Well with XP + PDVD8 + MP1.0 Final + 780G (Overclocked, Core=600, HT=1375) + 1080i HDTV, then there are zero frame drops, I can run for over an hour without dropping any frames (I drop about 20-40 frames when the TV pic comes on, then it doesn't drop any frames) fps stays at 49.5-50.5. Without the overclock i dropped the odd frame and the fps sometimes dipped in to the mid 40s. It's the HT overclock that makes the difference, changing the core doesn't seem to do a lot.

Testing the clip on a Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz with onboard Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M using PowerDVD8 (video) + ffdshow (audio) gives me around 25 fps resulting in a jerky picture (low framerate, jitter) like this (I know that the card is slow, but was just testing out):

    1080i.jpg

Is this the same picture that other with "to low" specs get?

I did the shift-1 thing a while back, and it was smooth with no frame drops or tearing. I believe the phenom gives access to some advanced de-interlacing options. As I said, I recently watched the entire free-to-air broadcast of Ice Age in 1080i with 6ch sound. There were two problems with video during two hours of playback, which I attribute to my dodgy DVB-T signal. I would prefer that my baseline signal was better, but bad analog reception is normal for our area.

My motherboard comes with 128Mb of 533Mhz DDR3 sideport memory.

I have downclocked the 4850e to 2.4GHz, to reach 400Mhz on my RAM.

I have overclocked the HD3200 to 600Mhz, because it is very easy to do, and well within what others have achieved.

there is a difference between hd3200 with sideport and h3200 without sideport. With sideport, less dependence on the HT frequency (ie Dual vs Kuma/Phenom)
