So are there any integrated graphics chips that can run 1080i content? 785G? I don't want to build a power-hungry (louder) computer to watch TV again.

Is this 'enhancement' the reason for the new tsreader? This new tsreader has crashed MP the few times I've run it after the upgrade. Surely doesn't pass the wife test. I get yelled at every time I upgrade because MP seems to find new ways to crash when her shows are on.

from what i have read/experienced (i used to use 780G onboard video)
    - changes are with texture rendering in mediaportal.
    - it's never gonna go back to old method
    - 780G seems slightly better with vista users
    - 780G obviously performs better with higher HT which improves memory access (ie HT3 CPU eg phenom/kuma core)
    - 780G works better if you overclock the FSB to improve the shared memory access
    - overclocking the 780G core from 500->600 only makes a small difference
    - 780G with sideport memory works better, however this is only 128mb so you should use packed textures fixed by swede to reduce video memory useage for packed textures. and of course use a low memory skin like blue3wide or similar. If you use up the 128mb it starts using shared memory which is much slower.

If you want to use 780G i recommend MP1.0 Final

you could upgrade to HD4670 its fairly light on power useage and gets all it's power via the PCI-E slot

Its just some law of the universe that whenever a person that is not especially a fan of computers walks into the room the computer will crash. They will run for months without a hitch and in walks wife and blue screens or hammering sound on speakers will appear :)

You can get passively cooled dedicated GPU's. 4670 I posted earlier is like this. there are also passively cooled 9400 and 9500's if you are an Nvidia fan (pardon the pun).

Here's a link I find really useful, because you can filter on passive vs fan cooled options:

Can anyone confirm that a nvidia 9500 can handle 1080i material with the latest MP changes or do I need a 9600. I know that a 9600 would provide better long term protection but silent 9500 cards are easier to source use less power then the 9600 and are also much cheaper.

Can anyone confirm success with nvidia 9500

    Regards

    Yes, a 9500GT is OK - I run a 512MB/DDR2 version with MP 1.0.2

So I'm guessing the 785G (HD4200) isn't enough of an improvement over the 780G (HD3200)? This what Anandteck said about the difference:

The graphics core in the 785G is upgraded from the HD3200/3300 utilized in the 780G/790GX to the HD4200. The primary difference between the cores is that the HD4200 fully supports DX10.1, Unified Video Decoder 2.0 (UVD), hardware accelerated picture in picture capabilities, dynamic contrast, HQ video scaling, hardware accelerated video transcoding, and full Powerplay support. The graphics core still runs at 500MHz (in current form) and at least in our particular sample, we were able to reach 1057MHz without too much trouble.

I know a passively cooled dedicated card like the 4670 will work but it costs almost as much as a 785G motherboard. I wish my wife didn't spend all my money.
