Have upgraded to beta 1, and confirm the same issue and resolution exist. Just on the off chance a dev reads this: any thoughts on the issue and what's causing it? Any more data you'd like me to provide?

Nice and repeatable, perhaps you should create a bug? That might receive more attention.

Interestingly, I was working fine with 1080i broadcasts, while I was using a 720p resolution. I have just upgraded to 1080p display, and I now get the 30fps problem on 1080i, with ATI HD3200.

Also, I can confirm that GB-PVR can display a recorded 1080i file perfectly, on the same system.

I'll give the switch to home trick a go and report back.

Ok, so I tried switching back to the main window, with "back" from live tv, but no joy - 30fps on what should be a 50fps PAL stream.

On the same system, using the same h.264 codec, both Cyberlink Powercinema and GB-PVR can playback the 1080i broadcast without issue.

This is frustrating, the integrated graphics hardware is capable, but mediaportal is not.

Actually (as discussed at length in this thread) it's the hardware that's not up to the demands of running MediaPortal - the nice looking 3D rendered animated user interface uses some GPU power, and lower-end graphics hardware can't cope with this and de-interlacing HD video to a 1080p screen at the same time....

Yeah... "lower-end" like 4450 ATi cards that is a whole year old :(

And the GUI isn't real 3D, if it only was that, then the GPU could cope with it...

I think that the general verdict over at the AVSForum is that if using Vista/Win7+Aero+EVR the HD4550 can't do Vector Adaptive de-interlacing for HD (apart from possibly a particular Gigabyte version of the card), so it is a bit underpowered for HD video playback. The minimum AMD card that will handle all that is the HD4670.

@pilehave - hey is HD4550 really underpowered? someone was asking me HD4550 vs HD4670, If so i should tell them to pay extra.

I wrote 4450 but Owlsroost have given a much more detailed explanation about what works and what doesn't.

    :)

Our only HD channel (FTA DVB-T) is in 720p so luckily I can continue with my slow and old HD3200. This gives me a Mediacentre that draws around 80W on load (Dual-core, BluRay, tuner, VFD, remote etc). This is only 20W more than the 4670 will consume on its own!

The new GT220 from nVidia also looks like a nice HTPC card with multi-channel HDMI audio support and low power consumption.

My system with a 9500GT draws about 80W when playing interlaced 1080i video too - I agree that the 4670 is maybe bit too power hungry...

Unfortunately we are blessed with 1080i HDTV. For what its worth, I can get 50fps If I run MP in a little window on my new big screen. :)

The funny thing though, is that Powercinema & GB-PVR seem to be able to run 1920,x1080 1080i without issue, using the same h264 codec. And the nifty effects? Where would they be when I'm watching live-tv? Milling around in the background of every frame?
