Doesn't appear to be too much discussion on this chipset in here.

Again, it looks like everything that is said about the 785G talks to 1080p playback, and nothing about 1080i. I'd suggest, just based on specifications, this GPU is not as powerful as a 4350, and it struggled with 1080i and MP 1.0.2. You could possibly squeeze enough performance out of it with the right setup, similar to the experiences with the 780G and the 4350, but I think it would be a hit and miss proposition.

the 785G is very similar chip to 780G, it runs a faster core, supports DDR3, and a few extra other features. it however is very similar to an overclocked 780G, same number of transitors etc... it maybe ok with HT3 cpu and sideport memory, but it would be a bit of a risk.

Perhaps we should go buy some C02 quotas, now that we all have to upgrade to ridiculously overpowered GPUs just for watching a little TV :(

    2009-08-09 21:49:14.781250 [Info.][MPMain]: TsReaderPlayer: OnVideoFormatChanged - streamtype=MPEG2 resolution=1920x1080 aspect ratio=16:9 bitrate=17600000 isInterlaced=False

That information is not used for anything else than logging (and yes, it doesn't detect the stream content correctly in the most of the cases, but as it is currently only for logging it is not on high priority to be fixed).

Do you know of a way to set the VMR9 'Mode in use'?

Just to let you know, by using the 'MPC-MPEG-2 video decoder' codec with software bob de-interlace on fixes my interlace problem with 1920x1080 video, but it really looks bad on SD video, so for SD I change to the cyberlink codec.

    Just for your info.

Just for everyone to try (and devs to maybe test?) I have an 8500GT, which seems to have issues playing 1080i TV broadcasts (NZ Freeview HD channel 3). Shift + ! elucidates that the video is running between 38-45 fps and is dropping a lot of frames. Playback is juddery. Task manager shows minimal CPU usage (~10%), so I'm sure the card isn't sweating it.

    HOWEVER:

Pressing the "green" home button, while watching the juddery 1080i video, which dumps me back to basic home and forces the video to run in a picture-in-picture type window, THEN maximising back to full-screen video cures the problem. Shift + ! tells me I'm running at 50 fps and skipping no frames. Video is crystal clear.

This fix is repeatable, for me at least. It seems to point to a bug in the rendering somewhere? The hardware *can* handle it, it's just almost like it's not deinterlacing until I force it to by dumping it back to a window in basichome. Interestingly, it seems that the judder problem *starts* when switching from another channel, which, in NZ are all progressive scan (most are 720p). Maybe mediaportal is forgetting to switch deinterlacing on when it has to unless it's forced?

Which version of MP & Windows are you running - and using VMR9 or EVR renderer ?

If you switch between fullscreen and windowed just using the 'X' key (without going to the homescreen), does it also fix it ?

I'm using MP v 1.0.2 running on 32-bit Vista using the EVR renderer and the PowerDVD 8 H.264 codec.

Rest of the specs: Athlon X2 4400, 2GB RAM, HVR-2200. Onboard sound.

Not sure about the 'x' key - I'll try that out tonight.

Have upgraded to beta 1, and confirm the same issue and resolution exist. Just on the off chance a dev reads this: any thoughts on the issue and what's causing it? Any more data you'd like me to provide?

Would be great if other users could reproduce this problem, as there are a lot of users stranded with 780G and 1080i HDTV. Unfortunately i can't test bc i've upgraded my video card.
