I am watching ABC HD (1080i) with Mediaportal - is that close enough...

Admitedly, I am watching it on a 1280x720 display (DLP projector), so I am not getting the full value of the higher resolution, which might explain why it works fine for me, as the video card doesn't have to output the full 1920x1080i image.

The "trick" I found was to use the "Zulu HDTV DxVA (BDA)" (I think that's what it is called) video decoder that came with my Divico DVB-T card - it decodes the HD signal without maxing out the CPU. None of the other decoders I tried could cope with the 1080i stream without stuttering...

Is that via satellite ? I've got a SkyStar2 connected to an old $ky dish. Would that be any good for receiving HD ?

I'm not sure about the HD trial transmissions via "freeview" [DVB-T] As I understand these are only occuring in London area. It will be a long time before we get HD via DVB-T across the country. :(

To get HD via satellite you need a DVB-S2 card. My understanding is MP does not support that yet.

HD over Freeview will only be widely available after the analogue switchover, and even then there will only be enough bandwidth for 6 HD channels.

Hey guys, I have BBC HD working fine with Media Portal via Standard DVB-S.

It had me going crazy for a few days, trying over and over again with each SVN snapshot, but the problem i have having was not Media Portal or my Hardware, But the codec's. I was using my system default codecs which were, for H.264 i was using CoreAVC, which is a great codec BTW, just not for this usage and for Audio the MPA Audio Decoder. Now after a bit of playin around, googling i discovered that BBC HD does not like the CoreAVC or MPA Audio Codecs. So i reinstalled the latest PowerDVD 7. and AC3Filter.

BBC HD is broadcast currently over DVB-S1 using H.264 and AC3 Audio.

So its just a case of using the Cyberlink H.264 Codec and AC3Filter with Media Portal.

So far i have 2 HD Channels working perfectly. BBC HD and Luxe.TV Both working full screen with 5.1 Audio

BTW, i am running it from my media server to my HTPC via TVServer. There is no lag, nor no Audio Sync problems. Plus my HTPC is not really that powerful, So im a happy bunny :D

If anyone knows any other Free-to-Air HD Channel on DVB-S1 can you let me know. Im dying to move my dish round to get some other stuff. any American Stuff would be good :D

Hope this has helped anyone out......

Cheers to the Media Portal Team for there QUALITY software.

Yes got BBC HD working for the first time last night too! Luxe also but can't see me watching that much! Think we may have to wait for the new freesat to launch in spring before we get to see other HD channels like Channel 4 etc.

Thank you for pointing out that my analysis may be less than accurate. :p Although the change to TV channel 71 may not also have been applied to the independent radio channels (different MUXes), the logs that I prepared for one of the development team does show a difference between channel 704 ("BBC Radio 4") and channel 731...

Now with Version 1.37 x64 MP is near to perfect with repect to speed, robustness and funtionality. There is just one point where I have an Idea for further improvement. Perhaps... Only way to confirm would be for me to invest in a different USB DVB-S2 tuner (like the Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-S2), which I might do if the issue persists.
