Hello all,

after updating my TV-Server to MePo to V1.4 the channel switching time increased to about 1.5x of the time it used to be with 1.3.
Is this normal behavior?

Sorry :oops:
Here you are.

This is from today morning, switching channels three times.
I hope this this portion of the TVServer.log is enough. If not, please let me know then I will post the full logs.

    Thanks :)
    Looks like full channel switch times for the TV Server are roughly 800ms. When changing between channels on a multiplex time is only 200ms or so. To me that seems really low, so I suspect the delay you're referring to is outside TV Server (?).

    Channel switching times can be decreased by using ram-disk for time-shifting. If haven't already done so. More clients more Ram needed

    The client is still running 1.3, the only change was on the server and after that the delay increased noticeably.

    @Quarter
    Thanks for the advice, maybe I'll try that.

    As I already said, in the log file it looked like the server's change times were very fast indeed. Are you saying that you are expecting channel change times of less than half a second and that you noticed a difference of a quarter of a second with a v1.4 TV Server?

    [edit: To be clear:
    ...the delay increased noticeably.
    ...I'm asking you what does "noticeably" mean. Can you please put a number on it?]

    I note that we don't provide support for mixing versions of MP and TV Server. It may work; it may not.

    Thanks for the advice, maybe I'll try that.
    I suggest you would be better to post full log files using the watchdog so we can see the full channel change time from the client side.

    Right now you've only provided half of the picture and I don't see any problem.

    Here are the full logs of the client.

    noticeably means that the changing times increased from about 1.5-2 seconds with MP 1.3 to 2.5-3 seconds with MP server 1.4 (according to my limited accuracy and my stopwatch)
    No it's not that I noticed a difference of a quarter second ;-)

    Yes I know, that mixing versions is not supported. Right now I am testing the 1.4 client on my second client.

    Hello again

    First thanks for the log files.
    According to the log file, this is rough timing for a full channel change with 1.3 client and 1.4 server.
    2013-08-12 19:16:20.010114 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: TVHome.ViewChannelAndCheck(): View channel=SAT.1
    ...
    2013-08-12 19:16:22.547421 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: tv home init:confused:AT.1 done

    So, about 2.5 seconds as you said.

    For the same channel in the same conditions with 1.3 client and server (found in your older log files):
    2013-08-11 19:54:22.513273 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: TVHome.ViewChannelAndCheck(): View channel=SAT.1
    ...
    2013-08-11 19:54:25.278760 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: tv home init:confused:AT.1 done

    About 2.7 seconds.

    Now, since I only have one full channel change from each scenario to look at this analysis is not conclusive, but it does suggest that there may be no significant difference.

    Hello mm,

    thanks for taking you time.
    The second log entry you posted is from 2013-08-11. This is already with server 1.4. I updated the server on 2013-08-07.
    It really feels "much" longer now...

    Do you need some older Logfiles?

    What exactly is a "full channel change"?

    When I tested MP 2.5 some months ago using TVE3.5, I found that "scan for channels" failed to find any channels when I selected a DVB-T2 tuner (a TBS 6284) :(, but succeeded when I used a DVB-T tuner (a Pinnacle 2000i) :).
