How can I see if deinterlacing is used or not and if so, what kind of deinterlacing is being used?

If the source material is interlaced and there is no de-interlacing performed you will notice horizontal lines across your screen.

Now regarding the type of deinterlacing being used, you have to be more specific. Do you use software deinterlacing or hardware? If you are using hardware are you using your GPU for it? and if yes then which GPU, cause they are using different methods of deinterlacing but in most cases will output the same PQ results.

I hope I use HW deinterlacing, but that is what I would like to find out with my first post.
My profile here shows my GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9600

Like I said, I would like to find out the method of deinterlacing.
Is HW deinterlacing being used, and if so, what kind of deinterlacing, and can i improve it. If software deinterlacing is used, why (=why is hw deinterlacing not used in that case), what kind of software deinterlacing is used and can I improve it.

I wish I could just see it when I hit Ctrl + I (or 1, what was it again, I'm at work)

By the way, what is the option in MP for that lets you choose the fallback deinterlacing mode (and what should be selected there)...it says nothing to me and the help section... is not helping actually. :)

    +1 on everything!

Why is deinterlacing such a mess?!?!??!

In my case all I know is I'm using HW for HD, as my poor CPU couldn't handle SW, but I don't know which method...

What is the effect on the fallback settings?
What is the effect on the codec (I can see Auto/Bob/Weave in PDVD9)?
What is the effect on driver (I can see a bunch of options in CCC)?

    Lots of questions unsolved...

I should point out that the developers have not formally left the project, and development has not formally stopped. The developers have instead simply "faded away", gradually spending less and less time on MP2 until the present, when they spend no time on MP2. But one or more of the developers might return next week! It is impossible...

I don't think so, because MP has no way of knowing at which timestamp the external player stopped playback. Best way to achieve this would be to use an auto-resume feature in your external player itself. (MPC-HC can do that, I don't know about VLC)

I don't know about MP2 but as you said you tried MP1 too, how is the MP music config ? MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback. If you you don't have multichannel music you can choose WASAPI as the output and set the number of speakers to stereo. I have...

Thank you for this tip! I'm moving MP TV Server to a new machine. I installed the 64-bit version and most of the MP firewall rules were set to Public. I couldn't connect to the new TV Server from my old single-seat installation running 32-bit until I changed all MP-related firewall rules on the new machine to Private. Before I did...
