Is it possible to disable mute and volume in Media Portal? I couple of times I've selected the volume buttons and wonder why there's no audio. I use volume and mute on the av pre-amp so have no need of the HTPC volume/mute controls.
depending on your hardware you can also re-map the volume and mute remote control buttons to use the signals for your Amp, so the remote controls these functions. that's if you are using a remote. If you are using a keyboard then just do what RTV says (which is usually the best idea anyway ).
Learning remote is mapped to my av pre-amp (MCE remote is not used) however I'm pretty sure there are mute and volume icons on a few places in Media Portal, so it'll be good if those can be removed.
you could edit the skin files to remove buttons, probably not very hard as you would efectivly be breaking that functionality but I am not experienced in skin changing myself

I've been using version 1.2.2.0 for years and have found no need to upgrade to newer version. I hate it that skins loose compatibility with almost every new version. And new skins are too 'fancy' for my taste. I use a customized version of the default wide skin with only Videos and TV in the main menu.
I use mediaportal for recording...

You can sniff http comunication with the help of Wireshark or Fiddler to determine channel url which can be used to create IPTV channel in TV server. If the url is not static(changes dynamically)...
