AW: Flickering Tv-guide and other overlays with EVR enabled

You don't have a clue, have you? And no ATI card to test?

I have four HTPCs for testing, three with ATI-GPUs and one NVidia ION system. I don't get a black screen with the ION but the performance is still the same even without the hack. 1080i-channels still stutters on this machine. I tested two versions (with/without hack) but the performance does not have changed at all.

I just can confirm that it does only happen with Radeon 5xxx cards. I tested my setup with a Radeon 4770 and everything runs fine - no black screen on this setup.

@MHL01
It's often a try and guess game with Mediaportal. It's kind of frustrating.

I understand you fully. It's just not appropriate IMHO to show disrespect to the guys who spend hours on this (free) application. For the most part, it is working well for me. Yes, there are the odd issues. I ended up buying an NVidia card to solve the ATi issues, and it has helped a lot. :)

    Hello,

after quick test: no flickering at all, but black screen while playing SD channel fullscreen (sound ok, MP reacts normally - displays dialogs, etc). HD channels are ok in small window and fullscreen

yep, same here, no picture on sd channels (at least while using a codec with HA support). e.g. the powerdvd9 codec works lovely in dvb-viewer, but produces a black screen and audio only in MP.

    ATI5450, win7 x64, mp rc1

It's really strange. The codecs work - you can see the video in the small preview window all the time.

HDTV works fine in full screen, SD-TV (tried different codecs) and normal videos remains black in full screen. I also tried to change gpu drivers (Catalyst 9.12 - 10.3 Preview). No difference.

Then I would suggest that you fix the issue and post a working patch here.

I apologize for that comment. Please don't take that personally. I respect all the developers.

I just bought a new Radeon 5450 two weeks ago and it's running perfectly with Mediaportal. Blaming ATI and always suggesting to buy NVidia cards is not a solution. You need at least a 9500 GT to have the same quality deinterlacing, the power consumption is much higher and it don't offer bitstream audio output.

The only way to fix this issue for me is to disable the removal of the ATI hack in my build.

I also have seen no performance differences with the hack disabled on a ION based system. Maybe a new svn build should be released so more users can test and report.

Well... the fix is easy. I have disabled the removal of the ATI hack in my build, so it runs fine again.

And you call that as a fix? :D In any case, I don't have clue why StretchRect() behaves such poorly with ATI 5xxx series cards. Sounds like it would be failing to do upwards scaling (thats why small overlay windows work and HD in full screen).

I guess the only way to solve this will be to have two rendering paths. The resource hog for ATI's cards and the more slimmed down version for Nvidia cards. Ugly solution but might be the only way to sort out.

Some interesting thing: If I switch through sd-channels I can see the last frame of the previous selected channel in fullscreen mode. It goes black again after the new channel is running. I have started debug mode and here are some logs.

Also: Selecting VMR9 within Mediaportal SD-TV works in fullscreen.
